I believe you are incorrect

UCLA has been hit by the NCAA

I feel like Mike White could have lead his team to a deserved loss and those young women would have the increased character to become solid citizens who contributed to society in a meaningful way. Instead, he taught the wrong lesson and I fear those youngsters are now in for a life of petty crime, unwed pregnancies, alcoholism, drug addiction and quite possibly mass murder.

Why do games have to end at 3:30 PM for class the next day? I could understand 3:30 AM. They play weeknight games. Dumb rule.

Haha. I’m sure Patty Gasso wouldn’t have delayed to keep from having a loss.

Both coaches played to use the curfew rule in their favor. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

Hopefully, they can meet again this year…if not this year, down the road.

After they let Wooden "retire" intact. The offenses occurred on Wooden's watch but the NCAA drug their feet till after and did a punitive slap after he was gone. Same with UNC and Duke. Dean Smith started the academic fraud that carried on for another quarter century and the NCAA ignored it.

The shite UNC pulled is the most contemptible of all.

EDIT. Forget that I wrote “in a way.” Throwing an academic department — especially one as politically favored as African-American Studies — under the bus in order to save your basketball team is outrageous, far more so than “improper benefits,” in my eyes.

Rule was put in place because travel may no longer be just down the road but across the country. In this age the travel time is factored in so kids playing on Sundays are at home and in bed for those with Monday AM classes.

The time may seem arbitrary but probably was determined from games in the past the NCAA had data for.

Apparently, Texas subbed in/out multiple runners and held multiple mound meetings in order to delay the game so the clock would prevent them from taking the L.

I get that, but why does the same rule not apply to weekday games? Is it only Monday classes we're worried about?
Why does it only apply to certain sports? They play college basketball on Sunday night. Maybe it's just me, but that doesn't make sense.

In baseball / softball the midweeks usually mean home games and the opponents are in state or nearby.

Weekends have the series and a rain delay on Friday or Saturday gets made into a DH on Sunday

I understand that, but just looking at tonight's schedule, West Virginia is playing basketball at Baylor with tip-off at 9PM. Will those West Virginia players be well rested for class tomorrow? Again, no logic in the rule.

Do those basketball teams play 15 midweek games late into the night during classes?

Key word highlighted

The logic there is ESPN will draw enough coin to make $$$$

Why is the NCAA Finals on a weekday?

Most $$$ and corporate folks are on junkets when folks like us have to work the next day

If baseball or softball start drawing ratings numbers the Sunday Rule will disappear like a fart in the wind.

OP didn't say it was "cheating", so your attempted deflection is invalid.

He said it was bush league, which it absolutely was. It was action taken to prevent an imminent L from being recorded when it was obvious Kentucky would win.

It was a disservice to the players and discredit to UT for allowing such horrible sportsmanship.

Since I mentioned WVU earlier, I just checked their schedule. They play 16 games on school nights (Sun-Thur). That doesn't include conference or NCAA tournament games.

Now that I checked, why does that matter? Cheese Grits already established the fact that in baseball/softball, midweek games are scheduled against nearby teams. The only issue seems to be Sunday games. Again, the rule is not logical when compared to other sports. These are college kids. Can they not stay out late one night a week?

Now you're getting what I've been laying down. The rule is just silly when they argue it is for the players' good yet are ok with players in higher revenue sports doing much worse.
