In your example above, are you really suggesting Georgia would “have been sent home” (I’m assuming you mean they would miss the playoffs)?

Do you really think that ANY 11-1 team from ANY P4/5 conference (much less the SEC) would even remotely come close to not getting an at-large bid?

Really?

In his model where conference champs get automatic bids, for sure it might happen.

There are 11 D1 conferences (for now), meaning that there would only be 1 at large bid. In 2021 Notre Dame finished 11-1 and would take that last at large bid. Georgia would be going home sine they weren't conference champions and there's no way Notre Dame is being left out since they're independant and it's their only way in, and Georgia would just be coming off a blowout loss.

Then teams like Ohio State and Oklahoma state that picked up their second loss in their conference championship game would be heading home as well. It's just not a good model. Especially when we'd get a matchup like Toledo (7-5) vs. Troy (10-2) in the playoffs as conference winners.

I just now realize that you were responding to a poster that suggested all conference champs get in.

I thought your example was using the currently agreed upon format with only 6 auto-bids.

So Bama's late season schedule could look something like this:

@Auburn, Iron Bowl, Nov 25
@ATL vs Georgia, SEC CG, Dec 2
vs USC, 1st Rd Playoffs, Dec 21
@NO vs Michigan, Qtr Finals, Jan 1
@Arlington vs Ohio St, Semi Finals, Jan 10
@ATL, vs Georgia, NCG, Jan 20

Insanity. Can you say "Opt Out" (players AND fans)

Whatever they decide will be better than the old way of 4 slots for 5 conferences.

Looking forward to seeing 5-12 get annihilated every year.
