People are cracking me up with these posts. Nobody knows what happened, other than the obvious. It looks like Kiffin was Yuracheck's guy, but something happened. That something could be nothing more than Ole Miss came calling, and nobody turns down the opportunity to coach an institution like Ole Miss, all the way down to Kiffin requiring a piece of arse from Yuracheck's wife before he would sign.

You post all this....

and then follow it up with this...

kind of makes it look like Kiffin put a screw job on Yuracheck, which is about par for someone of his character.

and this is why we're ALL laughing at Arkansas fans.

While this isn't wrong....I keep laughing at how people keep saying this as a reason for Lane coming to Ole Miss when he's been living in Boca Roton for 3 years.

That might very well be what steered him more to Ole Miss. He can step in and have a decent to good season there. If he gets lucky and knocks off a declining Alabama in the next two years he'll likely get a major program calling and, as he is prone too, he'll jump ship in a heart beat and leave Ole Miss twisting in the breeze.

At Arkansas he was looking at a year or two rebuild before he got the chance to have a breakout season that he could then parlay into a big job offer.

Sure we wanted Kiffin. But what you want is not always what is good for you.

He did not want to coach at Arkansas. They knew getting him was a big reach, so they pushed early for an initial agreement (Memorandum of Understanding). However, it wasn’t firm so once the Ole Miss job became available and Keith Carter showed interest, Kiffin backed out of discussions with Arkansas and moved forward with us.

The biggest reason for his decision to snub them was their roster. He’s referenced that a few times; see below.

quote:

Kiffin also praises the staff, including former head coach Matt Luke, for assembling a roster full of promising young talent.

"That's a big part of the reason I'm here, the way you guys and Matt built this roster, and what set this job apart from other opportunities I had," Kiffin says.

And bikinis with cut-off jean shorts.
And endless lines of divorced milfs at every starbucks.

There's been talk like Lane has settled down and pretty much just stays at the house when not working over the last year or two. The man might legitimately be fricked out. His face does have a bit of a dead-pan look to it over the last year.

Because you aren't intelligent enough to understand that the possibility I cited fits quite nicely in between the two other possibilities? Do you not understand the words "could be nothing more" and then "all the way down to"?

You got your guy. Be happy. He will probably win you some games. He will probably win more than Pittman, at least for the first year or two.

Well we had a signed agreement but Ole Miss offered him less money and Sexton told us Ole Miss has made an offer so we told him he wasn’t welcome here and Pitman was the preferred option so we let him go to Ole Miss instead.

It is really kind of crazy how the mind works regarding certain aspects.

There were 4-5 Arkansas posters going hard about Kiffin on the coaching change board and by some people, you would think every Arkansas fan was claiming Kiffin was a lock. Some were trolling/flaming and some were just stupid for believing anything before it was done.

Bottom line is the roster was probably the biggest factor when it came down to it. There are ton of rumors about why it didn't get done but we will never know or if we ever do it will be 10-20 years down the road.

they also claimed that firing a HC after only 2 years was not going to hurt their search for a new HC

Eh, there were other issues much bigger than this. Like 4 wins in two years turning coaches away.

If you look at the deal that Pittman got, and then the deal that Kiffin got...it seems like Arkansas wasn't willing to pony up the $$$

Make it a very hard sell to a new coach.

Don't read much into that, obviously they know Pittman doesn't demand the salary that Kiffin would so why offer him something like that when you don't have to

Yep, it was a tough spot. Firing a coach in year 2 is never ideal but needed to happen. The team was regressing and Chad was really losing the locker room. We find more and more about that each day from the players.

Coaches didn't turn down the job because Chad didn't get three years. They turned it down because you are talking about one of the worst P5 teams in all of college football having to rebuild in the toughest conference in football. I really do love what we did with Pittman's contract, no way we could have done anything like that with Kiffin.
