I hope Bert has some brothers that are refs and they get scheduled on the auburn games.

The problem was, refs were missing penalties because they were hurrying too much and were out of position.

Supposedly they fixed this problem.

The SEC is experimenting with an extra official for one game a week. Not sure if they'll do the AU / Arky game.

What's wrong with getting the games called correctly. Rules are rules.

This is just common sense by Redding. No reason for coaches on the offensive side of the ball to dictate how fast the officials spot the ball. Officials need to go at a pace that allows them to get into position to do their job properly.
anyone who would argue with this statement is either an idiot or knows that their favorite team gets an offensive advantage by deliberately making it hard for officials to spot procedural infractions that they routinely commit and wants that state of affairs to continue

College refs dont do it for a living.

Yeah this is just a common sense move. I was watching the replay of Indiana and Michigan the other day, and on several occasions the chains wouldn't even get set before Indiana snapped the ball. That's really unfair to the defense.

and dont get paid very much, and there is a huge number of refs required every week in the various cfb divisions, and not that many qualified officials. also, this is exactly what the NFL does with their officials

With coaches and players screaming in their ears to spot the ball quickly, the officials found themselves rushing
they need to put a rule in that if you scream at an official to hurry up (ie not do their job properly) you get 1 warning, next time you are ejected, player, coach, or whomever

Yep. Sounds like they are emulating what the NFL officials do with respect to pace of play.

No need for this. Officials should be able to ignore that.

Gus would be gone, week 1.

Hope so. I don't care for high school tactics. Line up and see whos better not who can try to get a cheap play in before the D sets up.
But that's how Gus wins. He's gotta get cheap shots in to get an advantage
Always been that way with gimmick plays, even at Arkansas

Reminds me of the 2000 MSU-Arkansas game. State runs the ball to the 2-yard line or so with 12-15 seconds left in the first half. The ref puts the ball down, then stands over it for at least 6-7 seconds while time expires. The crowd was going nuts screaming at the ref to move.

I don't like it...as an Auburn fan, I want us to go ludicrous speed when we want...but honestly I don't have a legit gripe here. What Bert and Lord Saban were saying was and still is a pile of dishonest shite...but here, can we really ask the refs to be in a dead sprint zig zagging across the field as a team with the HUNH shreds down the field? I think them getting into position briskly and spotting the ball ready for play when the officials are in position makes sense...and is a good common ground I think. Saban and Bert will still bitch that it's not slow enough but whatever. This is a common sense compromise.
