I think he thought bringing the St. Louis market would be advantageous to the SEC. In that sense he was right. But there were so many other programs that could have been added that were more relevant, successful, and worthy of augmenting the caliber of our conference. Regardless I kind of like those people, even though they’re not really Southerners.

The SEC WILL NOT split same state teams into different divisions. So you are stuck with Auburn, Tn./Vandy are paired, & Miss./MSU are partners.

But were they really available.

I thought adding somebody from VA and NC would have made more sense but those schools are all tied together politically so you couldn't just pick the two you might want.

Amazing how so many Rantards doesn't recognize the KC market in all this. Missouri has two major cities for the SEC to feed off of.

Missouri was fine as an addition. Ga Tech already was in the SEC but they were greedy wanted all of the bowl money for themselves. Plus, Bobby Dodd got into a pissing match w/Bryant, Vaught and others about scholarships. So they left and that ship sailed about 50+ years ago.
This is all about media and population centers. Mizzou had that with STL and KC.
Going forward if the conference goes to 16, it will be NC, VA and/or possibly OK.

I think that is possible if we get down to 4 super conferences w/16 teams each and the Big 12 goes the way of the 8 track stereo.

You could have 8 divisions within the four conferences and have a conference championship game. Then have a four team play off with the four champions.

The others could play in bowl games just like it is done currently. Except, I would cut the bowl games down to twenty total along with the three play off games.
Then if you miss the playoff, going to a bowl game would be meaningful again.
Also require all players to play in the bowl games unless injured. All coaches would fulfill their contracts and all contracts start/end on January 15th. If a team/coach violates the contract in ANY WAY, it is a $1 million dollar fine for both parties.

Sorry for the long rant but that solves a lot of problems right there.

1. St. Louis TV market
2. Kansas City TV market
3. 6.1 million viewers (no in-state competition for those)
4. AAU academic institution
5. Geographically contiguous (borders Tennessee, Kentucky, and Arkansas)
6. Solved the issue of a 13-team conference
7. Solid football and basketball programs (both historically top 40)
8. $1.1 billion endowment
9. 35k student campus
10. Rustles your jimmies

Hope those 10 reasons help your understanding of why the SEC added Mizzou.

Does anybody watch Mizzou from Missouri? Still could have waited on a different market

This is just stupid. Of course we do. I’m curious how many people in Mississippi watched Ole Miss football this year. I can’t imagine many.

Needed another football program to make up for the dead beats like Ole Miss.

Because Mizzou is better than Ole Miss overall?
