When was ND's last NC....93' right?

1988...

And before 2010, Auburn hadn't won since 1950.

But, you have to admit the popularity that Notre Dame still has. I mean, they still have a massive name and possibly the largest following.

I don't want to be defending Auburn here but how is the USC job any different from Miami? Both programs have shitty archaic, athletic facilities, an enormous pool of local talent to draw from, a huge bandwagon fanbase, etc....

The John McKay Center is going to be really nice.

I'd say the actual list not counting USC probation would be more like:
1. Texas
2. USC
3. Florida
4. Ohio State
5a. Georgia
5b. LSU
5c. Alabama
8. Oklahoma
9. Penn State
10. ND
11. Michigan
12. FSU
13. Auburn
14. Oregon
15. Nebraska
16. Tenn

I'll go with:

1) Texas
2) Florida
3) USC
4) tOSU
5) OU
6) LSU
7) UGA
8) Bama
9) FSU
10) ND
11) PSU
12) Oregon
13) Nebraska
14) Auburn
15) Tennessee
16) Michigan

And obviously I'm not listing schools based on success... Texas at #1 should make that obvious

I'm listing them in terms of best place for a great coach to dominate

due to not only the recruiting base and alumni support and all that garbage

Auburn does not have a better recruiting base and alumni support as some of those schools.

Which again brings me to my previous comment, is it a top 10 job because of the coaching staff or the school?

When was Auburn's championship before the last one?

The school is prestigious and has one of the most storied athletic histories of all time. Don't get mad Bammers.

As much as some people love to hate ND, no one can deny that they are known on an international level. There aren't many other teams like that on the collegiate level.

Thanks to the fact that they were in a shite conference for 60 of those 75 years. The only team Oklahoma had to worry about every year in the Big 8 was Nebraska. The other teams in the Big 8 were the equivalent of Kentucky, Mississippi State and Vandy. The Big 8 conference was a joke outside of Oklahoma and Nebraska.

A BCS Autoqualifying team's ability to win their conference is a plus in terms of coaching stability.

57 but undefeated seasons in 04 and 93 a lot better than what ND has done recently. I would agree with where they ranked Auburn on the list.

ND is still popular, I'm not denying that. IMO, I think the article is saying that at this point in time (not historically or in the future) Auburn is a better school to coach at. We upped Malzahn's salary to $1.3 million to keep him with us. With that being said, I have no idea what the offensive coordinator makes at ND.

never said we did, but we have a very solid recruiting base which aided in us being where we were.

I think both, i think its a snapshot of, if each of these school's needed to hire a new coach, which ones at this point would be the easiest to succeed at. It takes into account the previous coaches and how they've done, and also the general ability to succeed at the school.

My whole point is that ND made a name for themselves long before most all of these teams. Yes, they've been down right awful as of late, but ND will always have more pull than a team like AU or TCU.

This is a pretty good list. I think FSU, Miami, Michigan, Penn St., then Auburn, Tenn, ND, Nebraska, Oregon, and Okie St (the money is so big like Oregon). ND still has prestige but they just don't win who cares that their last NC was 1988, my problem is no real bowl win since 1993. That's just TOOOOO long to consider them a top program; I probably still have them too high. Doesn't everyone on this list have a major bowl victory or top ten finish in the last 15 years? Because ND doesn't.

Auburn is a bit high, that recent national title is a huge boost but you're forgetting the most important factor. Auburn is and always will be second in the state of Alabama, no way around that.

Well yea but if I was coaching right now, I'd rather be at Auburn than Notre Dame.

It's ridiculous that Oklahoma and Georgia are in the top 5 while LSU and Alabama is not. Oklahoma has to rely heavily on out of state recruiting and Georgia has won what, one national championship in their entire history.

Georgia is easily one of the best jobs in the nation, tons of in state talent. They want a consistently winning team but minimal pressure to bring home it all. I'd say UGA's AD job is the best in the SEC behind at most UF's.

I understood the Bama d.sucking of ND before Saban "revived" your storied program, but why now.
Jesus they hired a dude straight out of the fricking Big East to run the spread.
They would have been better off hiring Auburn's OC or Miss State's head coach. ND is in shambles and has been since Lou Holtz's days there.

Just pointing out that recent NC's aren't everything.

This guy's logic is baffling. FL/GA go above LSU/Bama because it's easier to win in the SEC-E ? Only a loser would think that way.
