Should there be a heisman equivalent trophy for defensive players?

The heisman trophy is not technically for players on offense, however, that's is the only group that wins. It seems reasonable to have an award for the best defensive player given on the same night.

We'll call it the Fairley Award

The closest is the Chuck Bednarik Award; however, that's the defensive counter to the Maxwell Award (which is TECHNICALLY supposed to be the best offensive player, but sometimes you see the Heisman go to a different offensive player than the Maxwell does).
I mean, there are certainly some defensive players that should have finished way higher than they did. Derrick Thomas' 27 sack season, Reggie White's 83 season... maybe not going to beat out Barry Sanders or Mike Rozier, but still. Reggie didn't even make the top 10, and Derrick barely did. Three defensive players did make the list in 1986, but none made the top 3.
