Hell to the MF NO

They've got hot girls, and it's a fun party school. But as far as athletics that's laughable to even consider them.

I think there are some confused folks in here today. "NOT selling WF" is not computing and App St was sarcastic as hell - but hey, they get us the market.

That is completely meaningless in terms of expansion

Here are some metrics for the NC schools by rank :

Endowment
#1 Duke = ~ 5.6 billion
#2 UNC = ~ 2.2 billion
#3 Wake = ~ 1.0 billion
#4 NCST = ~ 0.6 billion
#5 ECU = ~ 0.1 billion

Enrollment
#1 ~ 35 K = NCST
#2 ~ 29 K = UNC
#3 ~ 27 K = ECU
#4 ~ 14 K = Duke
#5 ~ 7 K = Wake

AAU status
UNC = YES
Duke = YES
NCST = NO
Wake = NO
ECU = NO

SoCon or SIAA membership
UNC = founding member of SIAA, founding member of SoCon
NCST = joined SIAA in 1898, founding member of SoCon
Duke = SIAA member when they were Trinity College, joined SoCon in 1928
Wake = joined SoCon in 1936
ECU = no SIAA membership and SoCon member in 60's and 70's (after SEC and ACC members had gone)
(FWIW : USC and TAMU were both SIAA members and South Carolina joined the SoCon the year after formation)

Sports
#1 UNC = 5 NCAA MCBB (38 National Championships in all sports)
#2 Duke = 4 NCAA MCBB (12 National Championships in all sports)
#3 NCST = 2 NCAA MCBB (2 National Championships in all sports)
#4 Wake = 1 CWS (8 National Championships in all sports)
#5 ECU = No national championships in any sport

Tobacco Road membership
UNC = YES
NCST = YES
Duke = YES
Wake = YES
ECU = NO

I don't think ECU should even be considered. But I do think that ECU > MIZZOU. That just goes to show how bad of a fit MIZZOU is. I think the SEC just felt the need to grab schools while the "gettin' was good" so to speak. T-A&M is a really good fit. Maybe not ideal, but they were certainly the best available. But to get them we had to let MIZZOU tag along just to balance the divisions out unfortunatly. ECU would at least add another good baseball team and middle of the road football team. MIZZOU only adds an underwhelming basketball team that chokes every postseason.

this is the longest list of BS I've ever seen....Tobacco Road membership???

AAU status? that might mean something if we were the B1G...

You do understand that the 4 programs you're comparing ECU to are UNAVAILABLE, don't you??

Expansion has evolved in the last 2 years....we're not talking what expansion USED to be, its a new game now. Most of you aren't getting it...

THE BRAND is the SEC, NOT East Carolina...anyone we pick is going to improve drastically anyways. Recruiting would immediately shoot through the roof even if we grabbed freaking RICE

The SEC BRAND is already established...you need to think of expansion in reverse. Where can we put the SEC network....

NC and Virginia are key areas for expansion, but the ACC took them off the market, hence someone like East Carolina makes sense

I guess business sense doesn't always sit well with sports fans...

I like you guys b/c you are Pirates.

I personally would not mind ECU if the SEC decideds they want to grow a brand but I think y'all would face a ton of opposition.

so do you think that number would change if they were in the SEC? If so, what's the value of this info??

my whole point is , most of the argument is because they are not cirrently in on of the Big 5 confereces and they have East in thier name. That's it. Today we all would take VA Tech, 20 years ago???

Sometime you got to think out of the box, the ACC thinks they locked you out of the NC market. So throw Money into the market and take it!

The SEC could care less about the NC market. The SEC wants the Virgina market with gives you NC, Maryland, and Virginia by default. I like the idea of East Carolina but they don't have the pockets to compete in this league. It is interesting how all these small schools are coming into the conversation though with all the money the network is about to provide to each school. Makes all the small schools who could never dream of expanding beg to get noticed by Slive.

Exactly!

so who would be #16?? Cincinnati? West Virginia?

Are any of the Kansas schools in play?

I don't see OU or Okie State wanting to join...

What exactly is the prize here? Charolette? Get a Virginia school and half the people in Charolette will be watching because they are from Virginia originally.

East Carolina would be decades behind State, Vandy, Kentucky, Mizzou and Ole Miss in facilities.

It would be funny to watch stoops eat all of that crow if SEC threw money at OU.

again, I think East Carolina would immediately start upgrading facilities...

Look at what A&M is doing...
