Bammers think they own UAB.. The stadium would only hold about 30k, which is perfect for UAB.. UA keeps holding UAB back. I really think with the right coach and new facilities UAB could take some of ALabama's recruiting base in the BHAM area

Callaway left Georgia in January 2007 to take the UAB head coaching position. He had not been widely linked to any other head coaching jobs, and was considered a sleeper choice by UAB.
UAB was rumored to have initially offered the job to Pat Sullivan (then UAB offensive coordinator) and later to Jimbo Fisher, leading many to speculate that the UA Board of Trustees vetoed the contract offers preventing UAB from hiring more sought after coaches and instead appointing Callaway as the new head coach as a ploy to keep the program in a lower status than Alabama's own.
Fact is, nobody other than the Georgia Highway Patrol had been looking at Calloway for anything!

'Little Bear' Bryant crosses line again in denying UAB
FYI - Per collegetoolkit.com Freshman COMPOSITE ACT Scores for UAB and UAT are equal (21|27), with AU being slightly higher (23|28).
Should the OGL be torn down? It will probably fall down before our civic leaders would ever vote to do that, of course that didn't stop them from demolishing one of the oldest race tracks in the country.
Will they build the dome and see if anyone comes?
Even though it lacks public support, it will be built. :beatdeadhorse:
The question is will we have a pot to piss in given the current economic state of the Jefferson County Sewer System.
[sarcasm]
Maybe all of the projected profits to the city, county and state from previous ventures such as the Birmingham Turf Club and VisionLand could be used to finance the dome. [/sarcasm]
PS: Anyone got plans for City Stages Weekend this year?

UAB pissed off Pat Sullivan and ran him off to Samford before any serious talks could begin with him.
And the BOT asked that the athletic dept. be able to pay a coach's salary without the use of donated funds. UAB couldn't afford anyone like Fisher with or without that request in place.

They would have hired him if pbjr wouldn't have gotten in the way.

Everything came out in the open last week when the UAB Blazers of Conference USA were ready to hire LSU offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher as their head coach. All that remained was ironing out the details. It was to be for $600,000 a year, most of which was going to be covered by some influential UAB supporters. But then the Board of Trustees of the University of Alabama system (which includes the University of Alabama, UAB and UAH) stepped in and said that UAB could not hire Fisher. They claimed it was because of financial considerations, but that excuse doesn't hold water since the bulk of Fisher's salary was going to be covered by boosters.
With or without that in place? It sure looked as if they could have afforded it!

UAB was going to get the coach it wanted, a coach whose rumored arrival already was waking up the comatose UAB football program -- yet would have been on the hook for less salary than ex-coach Watson Brown, who made $375,000. It was perfect.
The more important question would be how much longer can UAB afford to have Neil Calloway as their head football coach?
(Note) This does not relate to financial considerations.
quote:
On one particular spring afternoon, UAB's baseball team was beating the tar out of the Tide. Bryant, having a few rounds as he was known to do at the Birmingham Country Club, saw the score on TV and supposedly proclaimed that would be the last time Alabama played UAB in anything. Bryant died soon after that, and Ray Perkins carried out that request as soon as existing contracts expired. Or so the story goes.
AUB and UAT have resumed playing each other in men's baseball, they have been "forced" by tournaments to play each other in basketball (how did that go for the tide), however the outright refusal of UAT to play a regular season game against UAB eventually led to the demise of the Arby's Hardwood Classic.
Will Saban ever have enough clout at UAT to schedule UAB so he can redeem his lifetime W/L record against the small urban school from Birmingham?
If LaMonroe was his metaphoric equivalent of 9/11, was UAB his Pearl Harbor?

Unfortunately I feel it will be turned down, I wasnt alive when the "Big Games" were played there but I feel like everyday more history is being taken away. :/

I grew up in Birmingham during the Bears run and Legion Field was a special place but it's days are over. There's no money or reason to rebuild it. UAB needs an on-campus 20,000 seater. The gray lady is dead and stinking.

If they do decide to bulldoze Legion Field, hopefully they'll screw up and bulldoze half of Diarrhea-ham as well.

like I said, UAB could not afford to pay Fisher. I wonder how many of those reported "donors" would still be willing to pay a losing coach 600k a year.

You assume fisher would be a losing coach?

Since it is common knowledge in Birmingham that those "donors" despise everything associated with UAT, I'm sure they would still be supporting UAB's athletic endeavors. However, your comment is based on your (very weak) assumption that UAB would be playing no better with Fisher than they currently are with the Bahr trained drunk.
Truth is, the pussies that are the UAT BOT were afraid that UAB would hire a better coach than what they could obtain for the tahd (Saban wasn't "aight" with the tahd at the time).
Did UAB have any problems supporting the salary of Gene Bartow? I guess the bama **** nashun saw how well that worked out for UAB and decided to make certain that football at UAB would remain stagnant with the hiring of a bahr trained coach.

Why doesn't Auburn subsidize a football program at AUM?
At least the system board at UA allows UAB have a team.

Based on your comment above, are you actually stupid enough to believe that UAT subsidizes UAB football?

If you have any proof that AUM has ever requested to have a football program, please supply a valid link.

I'm pretty sure that UA does not subsidize UAB football.
UA has never (and probably will never) support any sport at UAB.

Guess the dumbass (attheua) has gone into hiding since he hasn't responded to any of his subsidizing comments.
