Actually, Legion Field was probably MORE of the secondary, if not primary stadium at one time for Alabama than War Memorial is for Arkansas.
so your saying that Bama played less at Legion then Arky in LR?

I don't think it should, but the city of Birmingham needs to put some money into it.

Yes,but that makes too much sense for Birmingham-JeffCo.
UAB is planning to build a smaller on campus stadium. Not sure whether Birmingham-JeffCo will care or even want to promote it, but I think it's better for the students.

Where the Hell do you think they're going to find room to do that?

UAB has acquired a lot of buildings/empty lots surrounding campus. The proposed stadium will be at the intersection of Sixth Avenue South and 12th Street.

Not sure how the stadium in LR works, but all of Bamas big games were at Legion field. They would only play a few a year in ttown. And of course the IB was there every year.
ahh thanks

I did not realize they had purchased property to do it. Regardless, I can't see the BOT allowing it when it comes down to it. UAB football is a losing venture. I can't see them throwing 60 million or more into a new facility.

Very well said.. I have never encountered a problem either. Yes the Smithfield or whatever that area that surrounds it, is not the best area but fans go to games there. We have just become spoiled and want nicer facilities in booming areas which Legion Field is not located.

They should tear down LF and once that's done, tear down half the dump that is Birmingham..
I drive all over bham with my sales job and I hate it. There is zero retail business in Birmingham, and most of the manufacturing facilities have moved to neighboring counties. It's so bad that I would rather drive an hour to Montgomery than drive 15 minutes to Birmingham.

from my understanding, its already been approved across the board - but thats just from reading things about it on here - so I could be way off.

Would the Iron Bowl ever move back to Bham if a new largec capacity facility is built?
Posted on 5/9/11 at 11:53 am to Quigley
I doubt the game would be moved to a neutral field.. The schools make too much revenue with the game rotating to each campus

Not a chance in hell.. too much money being made by the schools now to have the games on campus. No chance they would ever give the crooked bastards that run Birmingham a piece of that money willingly.

I don't have a response to the OP, but ...
that dump WMS in Little Rock needs to be torn down!

This, plus it wasnt ever really a neutral site. Bham is prettyu pro Bama city. The Aubs didnt seem like they were ever really happy there.

Maybe they have, but considering UAB is in the The University of Alabama System, this would have been talked about if it had. There would be bitching galore over it.

If I'm not mistaken, they didn't purchase the property for it specifically. It's property they already had. UAB owns quite a chunk of Birmingham
**For instance, if everyone knows where the old Jacee's Haunted House was....UAB owns that property now**

I believe the BOT has already approved it. I honestly think it'll help bring more money to the UAB football program. I think more students/Alums will attend the games if they built an on campus stadium. I have season tickets to UAB football games. I won't attend them though bc of where they are played.
