Found this funny.

Allen says Shapiro wasn't trying to buy recruits. According to Allen, there was a five-star defensive back recruit in the class of 2003 who Shapiro told him he'd spent a lot of money on. The kid ended up signing with another school. "I'm not doing that anymore," Allen recalled Shapiro saying. "We can't outbid these [expletive] SEC schools."

Safetys from 2003.

CBs from 2003

Hmm, don't see any 5 stars commited to SEC schools, but my best guess would be LaRon Landry or Dee Webb.

Someone should check Rivals.

Probably just a guy the REC paid to go to AU to throw the scent off our trail. AU doesn't pay recruits, we buy them for them. It is kind of like dating.

SEC has bagmen who would pizz on Univ of New Jawsey @ Coral Gables piddly $$, dont bid unless you come strong AU got them a Heisman and a BCS title for 180,000 and thats a damn cheap price I think.
That yankee school doesnt have fans and doesnt have $$ and plays in someone elses stadium about thirty miles from campus...what a shitepile. The only thing they can offer is South Beach women, good drug connections and automatic firearms on the black market just off campus.

This shouldn't be on the SEC. It's not about an SEC school or issues with the SEC. The quote is misleading.

Shapiro obviously doesn't know talent - he was after Patchan that ended up at Fla
LSU recruited him too

I know we generally cheat as best we can -- but one thing I can pretty much guarantee -- we were NOT cheating in 2003 as we were preparing for the NCAA to hammer our arse off a 2+ year investigation that fell under the repeat offenders clause...

Patchan was a cane legacy...his dad played for the ibis's....he was injury prone for his entire career at UF and suffered one setback after another....I think he was a kid forced to play football by his dad and didnt have the passion deep down for the sport. He should have been kept at DE rather than OL...might have changed things, but the kid was an accident waiting to happen, shot as an innocent bystander in a park in Tampa and then weight room freak stuff.

What I can't understand is that when Shapiro started his crap UM was never worth a shite during that time. Who was the "Nevin Shapiro" back when Miami was really rocking college football? When Jimmy Johnson ~ Dennis Erickson were there and the UM playah's were out of control?
