Its damn near criminal what the McElwain hire did to Florida.

FIFY

At least Muschamp left Mcelwain with top 10 defensive talent and Grier. Mcelwain left us with mostly 3 stars that Mullen is having to squeeze everything he can out of them to get them to play as well as we have.

Damn Mizz. Very impressive the quality team y’all have compared to actual talent.Kudos to your coaching.

Recruiting wasn't a problem under Muschamp. We had 9 5* and 38 4* on the 2013 team.

Part of recruiting that is underrated IMO is talent retention. That is convincing your Juniors to stay for their senior season.

Under Miles LSU was decimated every year due to Juniors leaving for the NFL. Last year Coach O convinced a lot of Juniors to stay (most importantly, Lawrence, Divinity, and Fulton).

Dan Mullen did an excellent job of talent retention at MSU. When they were good under Mullen he had a lot of players that were fifth year three stars.

Maybe, but it’s my contention that stars are bullshite to a certain extent.

Hear me out. The top 100 or so players are obvious. The elite guys, everybody can see that. Whatever the number is in a given year, there are only so many ready made prospects. After that, it becomes somewhat of a crapshoot where identifying fit for your scheme and identifying players that have an opportunity to develop becomes way more important than “stars”. Pinkel was really good at that, and Odom coaches under Pinkel. We have the two highest graded LBs per PFF in the conference and both were two stars that pretty much no one else wanted. Nobody wanted Larry Rountree. There are several examples on our roster.

To win at a place that really can’t recruit at a top level then you need to excel at those things. Pinkel did. Looks like Odom can too

UGA should be playoff bound every year with all that talent on their roster. They underachieve IMO

There are a small number of truly elite recruits every year, but then the difference between most of the four stars, three stars, and some of the two stars isn't that great. There are plenty of two and three stars that have the potential to be great college players.

Don’t tell the Aggies they have this much talent. They are convinced that Jumbo has no talent to work with and is in rebuild mode. Next year they’ll finally have talent.

Take a look again at the actual offensive line talent vs who is playing.

What Tennessee's numbers tell me is they lack quality depth.

A&M’s problems are subpar recruiting on the OL. Not overall talent

Could it be development and coaching? We have 3 draft picks on our OL and they all were 3*

It could be coaching. A&M lost its OL coach last year, and had to hire a new one. So coaching could definitely be part of the problem. But A&M is playing some serious spares on the OL, and misses the C that left for the NFL

Odom is very underrated. I keep seeing people make fun of him yet the guy does a good job. He and Stoops have done a good job getting the most out of their talent.

Justin Jefferson was a 2 star I think.

No player that has an Lsu or Bama commit offer should ever be ranked less than a 3*.. sorry but neither Bama or lsu would sign a 2* talent ..ranking was off on home obviously.

What this tells me is there are multiple mediocre coaches who recruit well at traditional powers.

Most college football coaches are snake oil salesmen. It's far easier and you get much a much longer leash by recruiting well and underachieving against your recruiting rankings than you do by working hard to build your program from within and selling high school kids on continuity and competence.

LOL...tell that to Mizzou fans. The notion is slowly disappearing but there is still a large number that is firmly convinced he sucks

The rankings are faulty with many of these kids. Some don't get anything but a default rating.
