So how does this work? Are there super regionals or just a big national meet?
I'll try to explain it as best I can.
But this is what is referred to as the NCAAs (or Nationals) in gymnastics.
This year it is in Los Angeles at UCLA.
The regionals were seeded based on RQS (Regional Qualifying Scores). The NCAAs are seeded based on NQS (National Qualifiying Score).
Florida is a #1 seed lock. Bama or OU will be a #2 seed.
12 teams advance to the NCAAs (top 2 teams from each Regional). There are 2 sessions (meets) consisting of 6 teams each. An afternoon and an evening session. Traditionally 1 session is more difficult than the other.
The top 3 teams from each session advance to what is referred to as the "Super Six." This is the National Championship Meet. Throw the rest of the season out of the window, b/c those scores don't count at this point. If you make it to the Super Six, all that matters is that meet and your score in that meet. It determines the National Champion.
This year is signficant, b/c it may be the first time a school other than the "Big 4" (yes, there's an actual "Big 4" in Gymnastics) has won a National Championship. The favorite is Florida for this honor.
The "Big 4" are the only schools to win a National Championship.

Wow wasn't expecting an answer that detailed.

This has been said for the last 3 years, FWIW

Welcome.
It should be noted, since this is an SEC board. In 2009, 5 of the 6 teams in the "Super Six" were SEC teams: Bama, UGA, UF, Arky, LSU.
Total domination by the SEC. Yes, there were SEC chants that night and at almost every NCAAs ever since.
Should also be noted that Arkansas just started their program just a little over a decade ago, for them to have been at the NCAAs this many times in their short existence is remarkable.

There's a lot of hatred for the SEC in gymnastics as well.
This is what the UTAH Gymnasts sported last year at Nationals.
It was made by their coach and all of their gymnasts and fans wore them.

LSU and UF are always the bridesmaid and never the bride in this sport...

Believe it or not, even though UF doesn't have an NCAA title, they actually have 2 more SEC titles than Bama.
And D-D Breaux (<---fitting name for an LSU coach) has coached as long as the Pattersons at Bama.
She has a few individual National Champions at LSU.
But LSU is in good hands after she leaves. Jay Clark, a former long-time assistant coach and recent head coach at UGA, was just hired by D-D and will likely take over when she hangs it up. Jay is partially responsible for UGAs success. He's known as a good recruiter.

good to hear. LSU is in the process of building an practice facility devoted exclusively for gymnastics so that should help the program as well

the National Championship happens in three rounds.... Regionals, Prelims and Super Six
Regionals are hosted at schools; while Prelims and Super Six are one day after the other and hosted this year in UCLA.
Prelims are the 12 teams from the regionals, put into to 2 sessions. the top 3 compete on the FINAL night in the Super Six.
The winner of the Super Six is the National Champion.
Also... Florida chokes at some point in this line of events.

I think you're sadly mistaken
We've already seen this before and it was a disaster. Jay Clark took over one of the steadiest and consistent programs.... in ALL OF COLLEGE ATHLETICS, which he helped build for almost 20 years... and drove it off a cliff.
Now, you could say, "well Jay's learned a lot from his mistakes, LSU doesn't have quite the pressures of the UGA job and most of all, he won't have a living legend to be overshadowed by." I'd have to agree and for the Tiger's sake hope to God you're right. Under his sole watch, the Gym Dogs became out of shape, prone to disaster at the least opportune moments and turned the team into a whipping boy for Alabama and Florida.

The Sessions have been announced.
First, here is how NQS shook out:
1 Florida 197.840
2 Oklahoma 197.570
3 Alabama 197.415
4 Georgia 197.260
5 LSU 197.180
6 UCLA 197.200
7 Michigan 197.235
8 Minnesota196.615
9 Stanford 196.710
10 Utah 197.105
11 Arkansas 196.435
12 Illinois 196.210
Here are the announced sessions:
Teams 1, 4, 5, 8, 9, 12 in one session
Teams 2, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11 in the other session
Afternoon session:
FLORIDA
GEORGIA
LSU
MINNESOTA
STANFORD
ILLINOIS
Evening session (of death):
OKLAHOMA
ALABAMA
UCLA
MICHIGAN
UTAH
ARKANSAS
A few thoughts. The SEC teams should sail through the Afternoon Session.
Florida, UGA, LSU are almost locks for the Super Six.
The Evening Session looks to be the one to be incredibly difficult. OU, Bama, UCLA and Michigan all have the capability of advancing. Remember, only 3 can advance. Also take into account the host school, UCLA is in this session, there's sort of a wink and a nod that the host school always gets a small advantage with this.
My prediction for the Super Six:
Florida
OU
Bama
LSU
UGA
UCLA
The only "Big 4" team that has the capability of keeping UF, who is the overwhelming favorite, from breaking up the "Big 4" is Bama.
And speaking of hosting sites...
2014 host of the NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championship: Birmingham, AL

This is very misleading.
If he hadn't of resigned from UGA he would've been fired.

Not sure what this means but I think its good?

Considering Arkansas only started their program in 2003, it's incredible.

So out of 12 teams left, 6 are from the SEC?
That is pretty impressive. It's funny to me that only 4 teams
Gymnastics got that mafia grading system going on, hence LSU having 2 of their best scores in history and losing at home to Bama and finishing back in the pack at SEC championships
