I suppose that's one plus of the abomination of a playing surface at UH. I have really shocked myself how rustled I get with that black pitching mound and no dirt around the bases.
But I think it won't matter as there has been a shite ton of lightning and thunder associated with these storms this week.

I'm really surprised that Houston has such a awful playing surface.

I bet UK wishes they had saved Hjelle for yesterday.

I am too. They have a good team on a regular basis but they just don't get the fan support.
Rice, on the other hand has a nice field.

Eh, we only beat Ohio 6-4. You can just as easily make the argument that if they don't, they end up in the elimination bracket the first day.
Why are LSU fans so obsessed with Kentucky's pitching rotation? Y'all are literally the only ones who have questioned that move. Let it go.

I was just making an observation. No need to get your panties in a wad.

Your "observation" would make a lot more sense if Kentucky won that game by 10 runs with no challenge from Ohio. It ended up being a 2-run ballgame. So I'm not sure why it's even a question at this point.
ETA: Add to it that they started Justin Lewis yesterday who has generally been one of the better pitchers in the rotation. He gave up some runs though and Kentucky couldn't get the bats going enough to recover. It happens.

Why the surprise at Houston's park? The athletic dept. only has the one big booster & he's put all his support money into the football field & that field is far from being major college material. Houston has very little money to spend, bottom line. But then, Fla. has the money & the tradition & its field is far behind the powers in the league. And the fan support is pathetic, again, in comparison to the rest of the the big boys.

It was a good move by Mingione, we barely won that game. Have to win 3 straight to advance now?

Yeah, have to win two today to get to the regional final. Don't know if the pitching has it in them though.

I don't think they do. I'll be pleasantly surprised if they do.

It's incredible that Auburn is on the verge of winning a regional, in the face of what has transpired. Only three Sundays ago, Auburn was in the process of being SWEPT by *gasp* Bama!

And auburn was picked preseason to be last in the sec. outside of that slump this team has played over their heads all year.

Eh, maybe. You don't know what happens if you throw someone other than Hjelle in game 1. The point is, your goal is to win the first two. The first game is no more important than the second. You give yourself the best chance to win the first two. Logic tells you that your best chance to do that is to throw your second best pitcher against the 4 seed and your Ace against the 2/3 seed.

There are several reasons to throw your ace first.
1. Keep your rotation the same and guys on the same rest.
2. The 4 seed is as about good as the 2/3 seeds.
3. You do so to save pitching. Your ace is usually a workhorse who can eat up a lot of innings so you avoid using the pen much
4. You want to have your ace available to close out on Sunday or even start Monday.
It's not a simple choice and professional coaches don't all go the same way.

My view last night. Pretty solid seat for general admission.
