Kentucky should be an honorable mention. I've had some fine barbecued mutton in Owensboro, KY. Once you get past the overwhelming piquant, gamey taste by pinching your nostrils, its delicious.

Theres a reason KC uses so much sauce.

If you cook it right you dont need it

I don’t really understand why people get so angry about this and food like pizza and chili. I like the little differences that you find when trying food from different places. While I may ultimately prefer one over the other, I feel pretty lucky to be able to sample all the different takes that people have on similar food items. Except for Skyline chili. WTF is that?

And Arthur Bryant's there put BBQ on the cuisine map long before it had the popularity it has today.

Arthur Bryant’s sauce is horrible. Gates is better but too sugary IMO. Their burnt ends are great, at least they used to be. I currently prefer Jack Stack. I still think my pork turns out better than any of those places.

I think Bryant’s sauce is a bit too salty. Has anyone here tried Snoots? Heard about it from the hotel bellhop in St. Louis but never found a place that served it. Pig snout cooked down for hours in sauce.

East TN bbq is fairly plain but Middle TN bbq is solid. Nashville metro bbq joints have never disappointed me

No, but I for sure would if I came across it.

Here in Louisiana we have great food. Even do BBQ chicken pretty good (see Jack Miller’s sauce).

However, we never seem to get smoked ribs and brisket right.

That said, northeast Texas and Memphis are the best BBQ in the SEC.

Best BBQ I've ever had was in KC. That said, it was on the Kansas side.
