Razorbacks is a good one.

And the "red" thing is common, but for Arkansas, we were the only "Red & White" team in our old league for most of its existence.

Texas Tech (red & black) and Houston (red & blue or white) came long in the 1950s and 1970s.

Well if you insist on looking like an idiot:

[link=( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cardinal_%28color%29)]Fancy MENSA book learnin[/link]

From the article:

quote:

Cardinal is a vivid red, which gets its name from the cassocks worn by Catholic cardinals (although the color worn by cardinals is actually scarlet). The family of birds takes its name from the color.

So frick off. Good day to you, and congrats on your thread.

I've always associated Maroon as more a shade of purple than red.

Good point, however one could posit that since Arkansas's original mascot (prior to the 1909 LSU game) was "The Cardinals", that our red should be more like the red of the actual bird...

This doesn't make sense to me, the color gets it's name from the color cardinal's wear, but that's not the color they wear????

The official colors of the University of Arkansas are cardinal and white. Because of the requirements for printing and the need to be as specific as possible when matching colors, the Pantone® Matching System (PMS) number for cardinal red is 200.

The only two-color combination allowed for the University of Arkansas logo is black and PMS 200. When producing four-color publications, the CMYK values shown below produce an acceptable match for PMS 200.

Cyan = 0%
Magenta = 100%
Yellow = 63%
Black = 12%

The RGB values are:

Red = 190
Green = 15
Blue = 52

The hexadecimal (Web) value is:

#BE0F34

Consider yourself learned.

I am truly sorry that you are so mad and that you think your school's color was picked for priest cloths.

It must be tough to be so genius. The demand for your brilliance must mean hella appearance fees.

It was just an interesting bit of trivia, maybe next time if you're not sure about something you can just keep your comments to yourself, and save yourself the embarrassment as well.

Now if one of your teachers asks where the origin of cardinal came from, you'll know the correct answer instead of looking like an idiot in front of the whole class.

You obviously have no concept of what primary colors are then.

Yeah, we have the best colors in the league. No big deal. And if you don't agree, you hate America.

OK, Pope cloths it is.

I should have never posted a picture of the bird that used to be your mascot. It's starting to make sense to me. Give me some time to absorb it. Please forgive me. I should have never assumed you were Cardinal red because you used to use a Cardinal bird for a mascot.

Wait, were you actually the Arkansas Pope Cloths at one point? I could have sworn it was for the bird. I'm so confused.

ETA: Double wait, did you think I GAF about why cardinal red was called such? Your trivia sucks and is as useless as you are FWIW.

Yep, color named after the College of Cardinals.

Another useless fact, cardinal was derived from a word that meant hinge. This accounts for sayings like cardinal virtues or cardinal sins, b/c they arise from other things. It was in a book I read a long frigging time ago, so it may be bullshite.
