Sorry in advance to derail this thread cnb.

But this whole "thing" has really started to irritate me the last few years. I've lived in the heart of the deep south my entire life. Not one got damn time in my existence have I ever heard an exchange like "what will you have?" "coke" "what kind of coke?" "dr pepper"

It pisses me off when facebook, buzzfeed, and the like always have these stupid lists like "U know Ur in THE SOUTH when...LOL" and it's always on there "We call everything a coke no matter what yall!"

No the frick we don't. You order a coke if you want a coca cola classic in the red can. Anything else, you specify what you want you tards.

Yankees all act as if we say "coke" to mean any soft drink. I don't think thats true at all. If I say coke, I mean a coke; say sprite, I mean a sprite.

I don't say pop or soda, but I don't use coke to classify all soft drinks.

Soft Drink Map by county.

South Florida looks pretty sodafied.

ETA....this is why expansion talks should center around Oklahoma, rather than West Virginia or North Carolina.

I'm from Louisiana and it is very common for people to use coke to refer to all sodas. As in "what kind of coke should I get for the party? Dr. Pepper, sprite, coke." Or "you want a coke? Yea what kind do you have? I have sprite and pepsi."

It's not as bad as it's portrayed, but it certainly happens. Typically from a slightly older generation.

This is stupid. I guess people just like making things more difficult and having more senseless conversation.

I speak for myself and everyone here in SC that I have heard order a soft drink. I order a Dr. Pepper, or a Coke, or a Sprite and that is what I want. I don't order a Coke and then have to be asked the senseless question of what kind. A coke is a coke, a sprite is a sprite.

If someone asked if I wanted a coke, and I said yes, and they asked what kind, I'd give them a prolonged look in silence to make them feel very awkward and uncomfortable, then say "..............a coke..."

This was my experience growing up as well. I don't think I drank a Pepsi until I was 10 or 11. Everything was dominated by Coke products, and mostly by Coke itself.

I grew up in Minnesota, but moved to AL when I was 11, so I've pretty much lost the accent. With that said, when I want to make my wife see red, I'll whip out the old accent and say shite like "soda pop", "youbetcha", "you guys".. It works every time.
