Even when teams actually took non-playoff bowls seriously years ago what level of bowl game you were in determined how hard it would be to get a win usually. Winning the mid-level bowl games didn't mean much like winning the big ones.

State has had pockets of success (late 1930’s-early 1940’s, 1963, mid 70’s and then from 1991 to the present day (except 2002-2006) we have held our own in the conference and our bowl success has been solid.
I do think this game against Wake Forest Friday is important to give us momentum going into the 2026 season and lead to improvement in the transfer portal as well.
With Kamario Taylor at QB (a star in the making) if we can put the pieces around him and shore up the defense, we can build on the progress made in 2025.

Competition in the big ones was much greater.

After having been in the SEC for a decade plus at this point, one thing I have noticed is that the Mississippi teams are always very physical, especially State. They just play a hard hitting brand of football, that I have to assume is rooted in the style of high school ball that gets played in the state.

I'm not terribly surprised to see them at the top of the win percentage group. I think they catch a lot of teams outside the SEC off guard with their level of physicality when they make it to bowl games.

If UGA beats OM they will take over first. State cannot take third even with a win and Bama loss. I didn't check the others.
