I don't quite understand why you have to pay tuition to public universities with endowments that size. You could pay every dime of the students' tuition fees with the interest that kind of money generates and still have money left over.
Has already been said, but the math doesn't work out even if the school could re-purpose it for tuition, which they cannot.
If you want to cry about student debt you need to start with teacher's salaries.

There is an enormous backlash against universities right now. I suspect you will start seeing these numbers reverse as alumni stop supporting the nonsense these schools now spew.
A&M in particular is in alot of trouble. I know many Aggie alumni from both business and family and I dont know one who isn't pissed off due to mond's recent crap.
If the university does give in and remove the Ross statue....yikes.

How in the hell does Ole Miss and Miss. State both have larger endowments than LSU?

No.

From what I know UT spreads their endowment more evenly across the system than we do, or at least I think that’s the case. I’m sure one of our top notch Texas posters that frequent the board will be here to set it straight

People really do pay the Aggies a lot to attend the weekly all male gangbangs don't they

Texas relatives tell me that A&M (main campus) lowered admissions standards and massively expanded enrollment in the past 15 or so years. It's a completely different atmosphere from what it's historically been

I’d rather be poor and have nattys in MULTIPLE sports than be rich and have all the resources in the world and still field shite athletic teams. Talking to you Mizzou
You do realize the primary function of a university is education and research, right? Of course you don’t.

Yeah it’s grown a ton and so has the town. It really started post Robert Gates tenure (2006). I’m not a fan of it personally but it does have benefits.

You would do better to list each colleges endowment for their campus location.
Even if that's systemwide, it probably skews heavily in favor of UA-T.
In Arkansas, for example:
$1.22 Billion is for UA-Fayetteville.
UA-Little Rock has about $80 million
The rest of the smaller campuses have less, by a lot.

Bama has a big chunk at UAB
To give you a clearer picture, UAB's portion is $495 million dollars. LSU is basically UAB with a tiger cage.

I'm actually surprised Arkansas' isn't bigger, considering some of the huge the money around our alumni base.
Alice Walton's little art museum in Bentonville is endowed around $1 billion, I believe.

Also, OP....everything I've quickly googled shows Miss State's endowment more around the $525 million range.

I'm not sure where he's pulling his numbers, but this has the LSU system at $886 million (125th in the country). TAMU system is at 8th in the country and first in the SEC with $13.25 billion. Miss State is at 190th LINK

This growth will be the end of all your traditions eventually. They wont stop at the Ross statue. They will find a reason to be offended by everything else as well. Give in on this and you will regret it.
Best thing for your school would be to cap enrollments and reinstitute legacy admissions. Otherwise you are losing everything that made the school unique to begin with.

Teacher Salaries isn't driving the Costs for College higher, the cost of College is arbitrarily set based on the PERCEIVED VALUE OF A COLLEGE DEGREE in America
The perception that a college degree gives a person a much better chance at success artificially drives the cost of tuition to ridiculous levels
Over the last 30 years Instructor & support Staff pay has averaged about 3.2% increase over the last 30 years, while Tuition has averaged 11-12% yearly increase over that same time period

Looks like LSU is closer to 886.3 million
