RE:the MU - OU game post...
Participant in many of those over the years...and someone always produced a hacksaw from God knows where to distribute the wealth.

Was at that game. Thought who the hell schedules OU for homecoming.

Got Game Day and things turned out well!

How the hell did KSU make the Alamo Bowl that year? After that season?

I think I can answer that one.

Back then, the pecking order was as follows:

1. BCS
2. Cotton
3. Holiday
4. Alamo
5. Insight
6. Independence

Then everything else.

When A&M beat Kansas State, it threw the entire slate into chaos and the bowls themselves told the Big 12 who they were picking. The Conference had NO SAY WHATSOEVER.

t.u. was a bigger draw for the Cotton Bowl because they hadn't been there since 1991 and they had Heisman winner Ricky Williams. The Holiday Bowl picked Nebraska because they travel well and were the defending National Champions. That's how Kansas State fell all the way to the Alamo.

The following season, the Big 12 instituted an override rule stating that the conference title game loser, could fall no lower than the Cotton Bowl and would force the bowl to abide by this decision. Going into the 2005 Big 12 Championship game, when it was clear that a mediocre Colorado team would be the North Champion, they amended that rule again saying that the override would only apply if the loser had 9+ wins going in.

This led to the "Kansas State rule" after the 98 season stating a team finishing in the top 3 of the BCS got a BCS bowl spot.

Good time to go to State right there. Went to a CWS if I'm not mistaken around that time too right?

Got to watch Herschel and Bo play while I was in undergrad, though at the time I didn't fully appreciate that I was watching, arguably, two of the greatest RBs in college football.

I should say 92 but it was actually Jay Barker out dueling Zeire in 94. Great game.

All the Auburn people are going to say our NC year or 2013, but the rain game vs. WVU in 09 (?) was honestly some of the most fun I've ever had.
