I would think that would be apart of the stipulation. Aggies and Missouri had to
aTm has never not invested in football or athletics in general. Great facilities.

They still promised they would upgrade certain things

Why not UNC and NCST & or VaTech. Who gives a frick about Duke? Coach K is bigger than Duke and dude is only gonna be around for a few more years. Duke will always be terrible in football and wont be as good in basketball after he's gone.

As a stipulation to enter the SEC? You really don't believe that do you? Do you know how much money we have?

No.

They all? No, no we didn't. UNC is lame, very lame.

im mixed on Duke.
Pros:
Academics
Basketball (even after Coach K leaves)
Other sports
Good natural rival to a UNC.
Cons:
Relatively small school
Football is pathetic
and you'd be surprised that their fan base is maybe 20% of what UNC's is.

I have been to Cameron Indoor and they have no real fans. Most of their demographic is fair weather TV fans who will abandon them quickly and other schools fans watching them to see them lose.
While they have a nice endowment and good academics their sports are not really valuable long term.

Yes but it is national base they pull from. Students from all over the country want to go their. And they work all over the country. That is invaluable.

All it takes is the right ooach and one special player.

Still a blue blood. Sill have money, and wait lists out the arse for season tickets. People still care.

You're lying. The student campouts for big games to Cameron are legendary.

Vince and Bear could not make that program relevent. And don't give me the Spurrier one hit wonder which in the grand scheme of things wasn't that great. Small private school is not suited for SEC. Not going to happen.

I understand the opposition to Duke (though don't necessarily agree) but why pick up NC state? Their football is nothing and never will be anything and their basketball plays THIRD fiddle to UNC and Duke (and we are talking about in the same state). Why pick up another .500 football team (which doesn't fill up it's modest 50-something k seat stadium) rather than a hoops superpower/nationwide TV draw?

I don't want NCSU or VaTech either. Clemson and FSUorUM.

The place only holds about 8K and looks like a high school gym. The fans are rude and do not know squat about the actual game of basketball. The operant words in your post is "big games" which means they just turn out to act like fools on TV. Go to a game when there are no cameras and I assure you it is a different crowd. Tar Heels are real and Duke is just smoke and mirrors.

I think Slive realizes this as well.

Tarholes suck too. We don't want them pansies in pastels.

Slive realizes that those two states are worth about $100mil/yr to the SEC each(if not more)... and that the SEC is worth what will end up being ~ $40-50mil/yr in additional athletics funding to those schools.
Whichever NC team gets into the SEC will become a serious player in a hurry. Currently, North Carolina produces a bunch of good talent which gets split about 10 different ways - with no flagship institution cleaning it up. In the SEC, that changes immediately(you just thought the A&M recruiting bump was drastic). Both UNC and NC St already invest in all sports - they just don't have the football attendance in place just yet, but they could get it in a big hurry if they were given something to be excited about.
