Ole Miss is perceived as small school that caters to a homegrown closed bar. Ole Miss has got to recruit more out-of-state students. The school has a reputation for being almost exclusively Mississippi residents.

I don't know about the law school, but undergrad is 33% out of state, higer than any SEC school not named Vanderbilt. I hear that affirmative action took the law school out of the top 100. I had an uncle who graduated from Notre Dame with a near 4.0 that went to Ole Miss law 8 or 9 years ago.

Various rankings:

US News - Tulane #44, LSU #88, Loyola Tier 3 (just means not Top 100) and Southern Tier 4 (LINK

LSU 2nd in state behind Tulane (LINK

LSU and Loyola both simply 2nd Tier behind Tulane (LINK

Also LSU has the highest pass rate of the LA BAR. I'm also pretty sure LSU has higher admission standards than Loyola (this is just be guessing because I have a few friends who didn't get into LSU law and then went to Loyola).

Take all that FWIW, and Yes I am an LSU law student.

Arkansas's rankings have deteriorated the last 10 years or so. This is due to a faculty/dean (not just the current dean) who is more focused on diversity than research or even producing good attorneys.

Arkansas Law

There is a disconnect between the school and the legal community. They have improved the building some but it is still not stellar.

I don't see how LSU law school can ever be ranked high because of the Napoleonic law they practice. Does that make sense?

No, because they teach both.

So I'm going to keep it real here. We did just make the "top tier." But in reality, they combined the first and second tiers, so in last year's terms, we just entered into the second tier. Regardless, it's GREAT progress for LSU, and I'm very proud of the direction that the school is moving in. As a student with more than average knowledge of the "goings on" at LSU, I can say with great certainty that LSU is truly committed to making itself better in the very near future.

As for the rankings, nothing is more important than academics. However, other things do come into play, including alumni support. I'm not a fundraiser or anything, but if you'd like to help LSU in the rankings, supporting your alma mater is a good place to start.

(And FWIW, there are non-monetary ways to support LSU.)

Well said, and applicable to a alumni of all schools.

Whoops, I posted that message in the wrong thread. But since it applies, I guess I'll leave it. Sorry about that
