re: If Mizzou Had Joined B1G, What Would The SEC Have Done? - Big East - XII Merger?

We're lucky to have gotten Missouri. I'm glad it worked out the way it did. I think it's good for both the SEC and Missouri.

I think we only lose to LSU but the score will be close, maybe even overtime. The Bengal Tigers are good.

It would be helpful to know each players 'reach.' The longer a lifter's arms, the harder it is to bench the same weight. Each player's height would be helpful in evaluating the results.

I always liked Nicks in the Sticks in Tuscaloosa..It's been a while since I've been there though.
Excellent choice. Famous for its drink called the "Nicodemus" and one of the few places that serves a chicken gizzard appetizer. Great steaks, salads, and just fun place.
Has Auburn been processed?

In its zeal to keep up with Saban has Auburn destroyed its program?

Sagarin says that his poll isn't really accurate until around week 7.
LSU education logic....

Nick Saban is widely regarded as one of the best evaluators and recruiters in the business. But LSU fans, who apparently have no analytical skills, persist in embarrassing themselves with the following argument:
Winning with Mike Shula's recruits is easy. Winning with Nick Saban's recruits is hard.
I always thought Mike Shula was a good recruiter, not great, but good. He was a terrible developer of talent. Generally, players did not mprove over the course of their tenure at Alabama and they were undisciplined.
If you were a incoming coach whose recruits and players would you want? Shula's or Saban's? No one would prefer Shula's recruits. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE would want Saban's players and recruits.
How many more LSU fans will embarrass themselves posting the argument that Saban won with Shula's recruits as if it were a put-down.

re: My favorite LSU player - Tommy Casanova

If you're a true football fan you appreciate good players even when they were opponents. Casanova was just one of those players who played so hard it was impossible not to respect him.
Archie Manning was a similar player. Every SEC fan loved Archie.

My favorite LSU player - Tommy Casanova
Posted by BamaJD88 on 7/19/10 at 8:52 pm
A post down the board asked about favorite players on opposing teams and I immediately thought of the great Tommy Casanova, LSU, no. 37.
For those of you who don't know, Casanova, was a great player, playing on offense, defense and special teams. He was a running back, punt returner, kick off returner, and defensive back. He played all those positions exceptionally well. All-American of course.
There is a prominent picture of Tommy in Mike Anderson's and last time I was there (with my children) I gave my children (Alabama fans) a short history lesson about this great football player.
Did anyone on this board ever see Tommy play? How is he doing? Is he revered by younger LSU fans? I hope so.

re: Alaska drilling

We should save the Alaska oil for a strategic reserve. Higher prices will speed up alternative energy solutions. Best to do it now, and not wait until we have our back's against the wall.
If we could wean ourselves off oil, we can then sell our production and make oil a positive commodity for our balance of payments.

Texas will be divisive in SEC
Posted by BamaJD88 on 6/13/10 at 9:08 pm
I understand that the potential impact on television ratings makes Texas a desirable member of the conference. But if the Texas administration is anything like its fans, Texas will be a very divisive influence in the SEC. Texas and its fans cannot accept being one among equals.
I think we are lucky that Texas wants no part of the SEC.

do you really think he would have gotten on the field at another position? That may work at another school but not Alabama.
I don't know, but apparently Coach Saban thought he could contribute. Saban tried to talk him out of transferring and encouraged him to consider switching positions. I think he's a good athlete.

Hate the fact that we cut the kid and now he will have to take an arse whoopin from us come fall....
Star wasn't "cut." Saban tried to convince him to stay. He wasn't going to play QB anytime soon and that's why he left. He could have switched positions and tried to get on the field that way but he chose not to.

I have no special knowledge or expertise with regards to SEC expansion, but I just don't see how GT brings anything to the table. The TV market is already in bag for the SEC.
The schools most likely to expand the SEC television market and thus bring in more revenue are Texas, Miami, UNC and UVA. Whether any of those schools would entertain an offer is unknown.
re: Georgia Equestrian wins national title...

Congratulations. That's really a big deal. Most, not all, of the girls involved in equestrian activities are from well to do families. They are an alumni and support base that shouldn't be ignored.
I know of two girls who are the children of wealthy Alabama alumni and they go elsewhere to participate.
I talked with a person in President Witt's office about it and they say they are aware that it's a problem.
If Alabama doesn't start an equestrian program it's going to regret it.

re: In the opinion of non-bammers & non-barners (Spencer Regions)

No matter what you may think about his decision, no one should be "angry" at a 17-18 year old kid for choosing one school over another.
However, I agree with Saban. If you are committing to Alabama then commit. If you want to take visits, that's fine, but don't commit until you're ready to do it.
Don't ask Alabama to commit one of its 25 places/scholarships to you, if you are not willing to make a commitment to Alabama.
That's simple enough. Nothing wrong with Regions's decision. Nothing is wrong with Saban's policy.

Yeah, like the "Huey P. Long" and "Oscar K. Allen" bridges that were built while they were still in office.
Reading this board, with all the snobbish remarks about Walmart, statues and sidewalk alumni, it seems as if Rival fans will conjure up anything they can to be indignant about with respect to Alabama.
To paraphrase and uncle of mine, "they're more indignant than Daffy Duck."
I think Auburn fans (who've been this way for years) are being a bad influence on LSU fans.
You should practice some restraint and avoid making petty criticisms.
