Maybe so. Which one of them do you know?

Multiple of the pastors at the Sugarland location are originally from the BR area. I used to know one of them well and considered him a mentor. I reconnected with him a few years ago and learned about this new church and began watching some of their sermons online. It felt off, and he and his beliefs seemed very different than when I knew him well, but I thought maybe it was just a reaction on my part. Reading this link lets me know my gut instinct was right.

Stopped in after a trip to Pittsburgh two years ago. Very pretty mountain town. Felt very small, though. It was a Sunday in the summer, and we were just about the only people around. I'm sure it's busier during the school year.
That said, as multiple posters have already said - Pittsburgh is not too far, and it's very cool. Great river city in the midst of its own renaissance. Definitely visit there when you've got a chance.

On second thought youre doing 20 over in VA. Just pay a traffic attorney to negotiate it down for you and keep it off your record. Its money well spent.
That's my plan... I'm definitely not dumb enough to try to negotiate it down myself. I just wanted to get a feel for whether the attorney would have any chance of making it happen or whether they'd take my money and run. I'm sure they'll say they can do it - but whether they actually can is a different story.
I got the ticket a week ago, and I've already gotten letters from two different attorneys in the mail wanting to represent me. These guys waste no time.

OK, that makes much more sense. Got it. Thanks.

No, I don't, but it's irrelevant here since I'm a woman. Also, who says the prosecutor is a dude? :usa:

Thw OT only approves of speeding if you're in the left lane passing someone. In that singular case, actual speed is not important. Were you passing someone?
If that's the case, yes. I was absolutely in the left lane passing someone.

Really? The county prosecutor will consult with me on my best defense for the ticket? If so, that's awesome.
This is my first ticket, so I'm learning as I go.

Now that you've got that out of your system, any actual advice? Bueller?
Chances of getting speeding ticket reduced?
Posted by sweet niblets on 9/3/17 at 7:33 pm
I got pulled over for doing 80 in a 60 (20+ over) on I-85 in Virginia this weekend. Thankfully, the officer didn't give me a reckless ticket (which he could have done according to state law), but it still sounds like the 20+ over ticket is going to hurt my insurance premiums much more than a 19 over ticket would plus I will have twice the points (6 vs. only 3) put on my license.
So here's my question for the OT experts: What are my chances of getting the ticket reduced to only 19 over (79 in a 60) based on the fact that Google tells me that most radar guns have a manufacturer-issued margin of error of at least +/- 1 MPH? Assuming Google is right and that I can get proof, it is statistically just as likely that I was doing 79 as it is that I was doing 80 as the officer stated.
Any thoughts? If I have a chance, I might try to fight it. If not, I'll save myself the attorneys fees and just pay the ticket online.
TIA! :usa:

LSU bar in Hampton Roads, VA?
Posted by sweet niblets on 6/13/17 at 10:41 pm
I live near Hampton Roads in Virginia and would love to watch the CWS nearby with some fellow Tiger fans. Does anyone know where LSU alumni in Hampton Roads congregate? And if not, do you know of a good local sports bar that's not BWW or something equally obnoxious? Anywhere Williamsburg and SE is fine; I'm willing to drive a bit for a good experience.
Thanks in advance! :geauxtigers:

re: Psoriatic arthritis, causes and treatment.
Posted by sweet niblets on 5/1/17 at 8:24 pm
A friend of mine has psoriatic arthritis + ankylosing spondylitis, genetic marker included. I could go into how terrible things were for him pre-diagnosis (constant pain, fatigue, etc. + 9 ortho surgeries that we now realize may have been unneeded), but it sounds like everyone here gets it. He dealt with an idiot primary care doc who did nothing but throw minor pain meds at him for years, but he finally got a referral to a rheumatologist and a diagnosis in 2014.
He tried Humira with mixed results. It succeeded in lowering his inflammation markers within normal range, but the side effects were terrible. He would be sick for 2-3 days after every injection and developed IBD-like GI issues that he'd never had before. So he quit after a year.
Since then he got a new GP who wanted to try diet and exercise in lieu of (or at least in conjunction with) biologics. He started on the auto-immune protocol (AIP) diet in January, and it has been a life-changer. He feels 100x better than he ever did with or without the Humira, and his inflammation markers are in a workable range. And all with zero side effects. The diet is INTENSE (stricter than Paleo/Whole 30) but so worth it.
I never bought into alternative medicine until I saw what a difference changing his diet made. So with diet + the right meds, I'd imagine ever more is possible. He's just not ready to go the biologic route again after the nightmare that was Humira.
TL;DR version: Autoimmune issues suck. Meds can help, but don't rule out diet as well.

re: Does anyone struggle with severe anxiety?
Posted by sweet niblets on 10/17/15 at 7:09 pm
I know exactly how you feel. My grandma died when I was 12 (17 years ago) from ALS. At the time, I had no idea what that meant and never really thought about it again. The ice bucket challenge stuff last year caused me to look into it, and I realized how terrifying a disease it is. And although I know only a small % of cases are hereditary (and that she didn't have the commonly linked genes), I was still paranoid that I would get it, so much so that I talked to my sig. other about how to handle it should it happen.
At first I only felt anxious at night, but then it slowly got worse and I couldn't get my mind off of it. I never had a full-blown panic attack, but the anxiety caused my hands/feet to go cold and numb and my legs to tingle (an early sign of ALS, by the way, making it that much worse).
I finally had enough and went to the doc, and she put me on the lowest dose of a SSRI. It took a few weeks to kick in -- and the first few weeks were awful -- but with time, it helped a ton. I tried coming off of it earlier this year but ultimately decided I'd rather take a pill everyday than live my life scared of stupid, irrational fears.
This is a long-winded way of saying you're not alone and also not crazy. Lots of people feel the same way. Stay strong, and don't be afraid to ask for help.

I'm in Richmond but am in the process of moving to Williamsburg. Not much of an alumni presence here, either. Central and SE Virginia is where college football fans go to die, IMHO. There's a good group of alums up in DC, though.
re: Best way to get from NYC to Norfolk va?
Posted by sweet niblets on 7/3/14 at 10:41 pm
Does she need to go tonight? I'd say that a rental car straight down I-95 is the most efficient option -- train won't get you there much faster and will be more expensive. The drive will be ~8 hours depending on how traffic through Philly and DC treats her. If she wants to go bus, I'd definitely recommend Megabus over Greyhound. I don't know if Megabus goes specifically to Norfolk, but I know it goes nearby in the Hampton Roads/Virginia Beach area.

I moved out of state for the first time earlier this year, and today's game will be my first in 26 years as a non-Louisiana resident. I'm not going to lie: My heart is breaking a little bit. But I already have plans to make it to BR at least twice this season, so that helps.
The upside: The Tigers have one more fan cheering for them out here in Virginia!

Brian was just trying to get the media off the "who's your QB" talk. He's a great Tiger. Smart, sharp, VERY Christian, very loyal. Also put's on a great camp in BR. He comes from as big an LSU family as there is. Played 13 years in the NFL and won superbowl rings. Let's back off throwing him under the bus for saying we're better with JL.
I don't know if Brian Kinchen is Christian or not. If he is, though, someone needs to tell him that his religious beliefs do not require him to walk around acting as if he is God himself.
