Yeah, the markup for tickets to that game each year is absurd.

I almost made the mistake of shelling out $500 for a ticket to 1/9. Thank GOD I didn't.

No they wont. They will simply get thier money by raising the price of a hotdog or a commercial or an ad on the side of a stadium.

The market has shown that ppl will pay the price of current ticket prices.

The market changes, and as long as TV contracts go up, I think eventually, with time, the tickets to the games will begin to decline.

The market is declining

To attend a game live requires driving, parking, tailgating, the game itself, waiting for traffic to die down, etc.

I am 2 hrs away, we tailgate pretty well, so a game pretty much takes up my weekend.

Get ready friday, go to bed early, wake up at the crack of dawn, gameday, get back really late, then unpack and clean the next day. By the time I am finished on sunday, I just want to rest and crash.

They see those as two different and idependent revenue streams. cutting ticket prices will not be an option.

Yeah but how many regular fans are in that tax bracket?

Besides how much longer will the IRS allow that game to be played when that is a whole lot of corporate tax dollars they are not collecting.

Moved to NYC. I was going to come to a couple of games in 2012 until it became obvious that we were horrible.

Did you read the link?

Season-ticket sales are down about 3 percent this year, according to Auburn President Jay Gogue. Auburn is putting public tickets on sale in June.

This should happen everywhere.

3 percent decline is not enough to warrant a price decrease. it would take a large chunk of unsold tickets to make it happen, like 30% or more. All they will do is offer packages for shitty tickets at a cheaper rate. Hell look at GA Tech, they didnt lower season ticket prices, yet they offered a package for $99 right before the season for the shitty games, in shitty seats

Yes and No

The older folks will because they have personal experience with long time conditioning to live games. This is the 40 - 80 age group right now but the majority are the baby boomers who are starting to die off. In a generation that loyalty will be a thing of the past and the next generation will have been raised on TV only games. Like 4 bedroom houses in an age of empty nesters the live game will become a classic case of too much supply and too little demand.

At LSU,when any season tickets are not renewed, and it does happen, they go immediately into the TAF (booster club) pot. And that policy has been in effect for yrs & yrs. Common sense says that those new season ticket holders have a higher income than Joe Smoe, as they can afford the TAF fees on top of the ticket prices. So right there the Joe Smoes are getting forced out of the stadiuim. And it is those fans who are usually more loyal & supportive of the team on the field. Not in all instances, obviously, but TAF'ers are getting more & more seats in TS as the yrs go by. Add to the raw commercialization of TS, where the policy seems to be "if there is a 12" blank piece of stadium, let's slap a sign on it. When the action stops, we get non stop commercials over the stadium loud speaker. Prominent boosters get announced at the end of each quarter. Taking away playing time for the Golden Band, who now only plays regularly scheduled music 5-6 times a game now. etc etc etc etc TS is not near what it used to be.

Stubhub prices for Auburn/Oregon BCSNCG were easily double that.

If 50k season tickets are sold, that 3% decrease is only 1500 season tickets. At $400 a season ticket, that is $600k in lost revenue. How do you think they will re-coup that lost money...by decreasing ticket prices?

That's the thing, no business is going to self inflict a cut to revenue. They will just find a means to supplement it and/or find a way to make the product more attractive by adding additional features or making the product more wanted.

I don't doubt that. The $500 I almost shelled out on 1/9 was for a friend of a friend's ticket.
