11th nationally and 1st in the SEC in Total Defense, and 27th nationally and 3rd in the SEC in Scoring Defense, is a very solid defense.
Also, among P5 teams, A&M is 5th nationally in total defense and 11th nationally in Scoring Defense. That's a legit squad in any year.

It is almost like a guy with a Ford Focus bragging about it to a guy with a Mercedes. I guess bragging about something so inferior helps to cope when you have not won a conference championship much less a Natty.

First time I've ever seen a defending national champ drop a .500 season and such. All the LSU fans crowing about how there wouldn't be any dropoff and such. Losing to Missouri and Miss St and such with 5* talent all over the field and such.

I think you're missing the entire point of this thread. The fact that A&M can allow 21 ppg and be viewed as a great defense in 2020 reiterates what the OP is saying....truly great defenses are a thing of the past. 10 seasons ago, in this conference (SEC games only), only 3 teams allowed 28 ppg or more. This year 9 did. 10 years ago (SEC games only) only 6 teams averaged more than 21 ppg on offense. This year only 2 didn't.
