But correct me if I'm wrong...

If Georgia goes to the Sugar and Florida to the Orange.... and if Auburn is ranked higher than Alabama, then the Cotton can't choose to take a lower ranked SEC team. They'd have to choose the one that is ranked higher?

Is that not correct?

If I remember correctly, it is the League Office that determines the non-NY6 lineup. They work with the Bowls and the members.

Actually the bowls themselves can make it without attendance because of the insane TV money these days. It's why you see so many bowls, so poorly attended but they keep adding bowls to the slate.

This is true. But bowls do like the optics of seats filled in the stadium.

However, a good bowl committee understands the politics of the community and would work hard to fill the town with people to spend money on hotels, food, entertainment, etc...

Very true in small towns. Shreveport, Mobile, etc. This is as much of a driver as anything. It even matters in some of the "smaller" large cities like Memphis and New Orleans.

But when you get to gigantic metro areas like NYC, LA, Dallas, Miami, etc., this really becomes a non-factor. There is so much going on in those cities at any given time, one football game can go unnoticed. It's just not a factor.

I saw somewhere, may or may not be true, that the Orange Bowl only has to honor the ACC tie in if the available team is in the top 25 in the AP pol

UVA has 9 wins and just beat a VA Tech team they put into the top 25.

I imagine they'll keep them ranked short of being blown out 60-0 by Clemson, even it is teetering on the top 25.
