Here is the odd thing.
We consider this to be part of a terrible run. Since Nolan left we've been wandering the desert when it comes to basketball. 4th in the SEC compared to the glory days is like 4th in Atlantic Sun conference.
Sure, we aren't dead last, but it just feels so empty.

I mean I was constantly frustrated with Fox, but he won around 50% of his SEC games. In the last two seasons, we're a combined 7-27 in SEC play.... and that includes a season with a potential #1 NBA Draft pick on the court.
I really don't think we're better off.
This is a bad take. This is like advocating for jim donnan because we were "pretty good" when any fool could see he wasn't going to take us where wanted to go.
Fox had the personality of a wet sponge, was a mediocre recruiter, and despite having tourney worthy rosters some years never did anythign with them. His 2nd year he made the tourney 100% because of felton's recruits, all the recruits he brought in didn't do anythign. We did make it again 6 years later, and I have nothing bad to say abotu that season. Good year for him. The other years we either missed or had embarassing losses in the NIT. Keep in mind he was there 9 years without a tourney win, if you don't think we're better off are yous aying we should have kept him around for year 10 and beyond? As if we'd suddenly start winnign more? After 9 yeras you know what you have, and fox was average.
Crean is the polar opposite of fox. We actually score the ball for one. Even in losses fans would rather see you lose 82-88 than 49-53. That excitement has brought in fans, and thereby money. First full season sellout in years. HE's a dynamic recruiter. He sells the program. If you don't think we're better off now than under fox I don't know what to say. It's also worth pointing out that crean is not a program changer out of the gates. He was .500 2 years at marquette before they took off. He had an abysmal first 3 yeras at indiana before turning them around. We are a much better team now than we were 12 months ago, and (I know you can't do this, and the games count, I'm not saying they don't) there's about 6 more games this year that we were a ball bounce away from winning. With a little diffent luck this team is a bubble team in year 2. And this is after inheriting a fox roster with no SEC level guards and 2 good big men in claxton and ogbeide. FFS fox gave a GD roster spot to houston kessler AND PLAYED HIM in the hopes of getting his brother we dont' have a shot at. Fox is doing reall well at cal btw this season lol.
I'm not saying crean is going to take us to the final 4, but he is an upgrade in almost every way from fox.

The real problem is most of these programs go after the fruit of the month coach when they make a change. AU did it with Barbee .

Mississippi State's record seems kind of shocking.
The end of Stansbury's run, and the hiring of Rick Ray, set the program back a good decade

Tennessee has really only had 3 good teams out of 8 during this stretch and they are 3rd?

You can thank Cuonzo for those two 11-7 years

Last Cuonzo team going 11-7 was one of the worst coaching jobs of all time. That should have been a 14+ win team in the league.
