College WBB is more watched than college baseball. Personally, I like BOTH and have season tickets to both at LSU.

That’s because they do. A big part of it is the ESPNW bullshite, but another reason is softball is faster paced than baseball. Smaller field, very few if any pitching changes, lots of action.

If you can mute out the cheers, it’s actually a lot of fun to watch

Good scenery too

I get what you're saying, but I will toss a little rebuttal into the mix...

You say "nobody cares about college baseball", but that doesn't have to be the case. There are a lot of people who would root for THEIR TEAM, no matter what. Could be cornhole, could be bass fishing. I guarantee this is not just an SEC thing, I bet you when Michigan made the CWS finals a fair amount of Big Blue fans noticed. They may not have attended, but I bet there was some alumni chatter.
Schools like Ohio State, Notre Dame, etc; they have rabid fans. If they became good at a sport, they would start to notice it.

Now, you take a sport like baseball, where there's lots of awareness in general of the sport- and I think there's potential for a breakthrough. We saw it in the SEC, multiple schools now care.
I think if the weather allowed the Big 10 to compete, they'd be more interested. I think baseball could easily pass women's basketball.

Now I'm interested in college baseball ticket revenue vs. women's basketball ticket revenue. Anyhoo..

I did use the word relatively to indicate that circumstances exist, like ones you mentioned. The resources just aren't available without cutting back on programs like football and basketball. I'm not sure even Arkansas makes a profit on baseball, last time I combed through public records from the athletic dept. Football funds everything in the SEC so that is a significant barrier.

There is no tv audience for it.

Sometimes TV fills a demand; sometimes it provides an option.

Again, think of the two simple truths about this:
1) baseball is one of the 3 big sports in America. MLB has been around for over a century, and is part of the national fabric. It is popular from the professional level, down to the Tee ball levels for basically toddlers.
2) College fandom is and has always been about the name on the jersey, more than the actual sport. There are people (lots of them) who would start rooting for guys throwing rocks at trees, if they had some affiliation with a college.
Look at LSU- not the baseball fervor. I'm talking about women's beach volleyball. A couple years ago LSU started (or had) a team that was pretty good. People started talking about them on the Rant.
We have no beaches in La, just piles of sand. But damnit, those girls were repping the Purple and Gold.

You would think Baseball + College would be a doable thing. LSU cracked the code (Miss State had already), and the SEC followed. It's now relevant in this conference. It's probably one of the reasons Texas chose the SEC over the Big 10, because they have a solid program and the Big 10 cares not. Texas does, and now they can play against a bunch of other schools that do, too.

I've heard some folks talk about level of play, but that's not relevant. We're not competing against the Yankees, just playing the same sport.

If there were a steady dose on TV, I think it would grow in popularity nationally.
