The straight guy that realizes that a band can get a home crowd going and give your team an advantage in a big game.

piped-in music

What does that mean when the band uses piped in music?

No - it's when the Stadium uses piped-in music instead of the Band. TS started this last Fall - guess it was just in keeping with the dismal '08 season but to the chagrin of many.

It's not the band, it the PA system. When you play AC/DC or something over the speakers before a third down to get the crowd into the play. I hate it. I think the band should play all the music in the stadium. The loud speaker music is NFLish IMO.

Oh ok I gotcha...Yeah I agree I don't know about you but I get so tired of hearing that Ozzy Osbourne Crazy Train song during NFL games.

I think thats characteristic of most major cities. I mean New York City really isnt representative of the state of New York...

Exactly my point. One thing I hate is that when I tell someone that lives in another part of the country that I live in Louisiana, they always ask, "You live in N.O.?" NO!!

IMO, I dunno where yall sit, but I think the drumline needs to play more. I think we're one of the only bands in the league that doesn't play when we're on defense. They played alot more in 05 and 06 compared to now.

The answer to the question is simple: LSU is the only school in the south that gives FULL scholarships out for band members.

Google the Golden Oaks scholarship. It's why LSU can select from the best, from Texas to the east coast.

AFAIK, LSU and maybe Ohio State are the only schools in the country to offer more than partial scholarships for band members.

So as the old adage goes, "You get what you pay for."

Yeah, that is prob a big reason. I'd prob still do it w/o the scholarship fwiw, but I knew a few who wouldn't.

The band isn't allowed to play when we are on defense... That would probably explain it. There's a lot more that goes into the game then just playing when we want to.

I went to ED White(the best band in LA and one of the best in the US-pound for pound) but we got beat in Natl competitions constantly by the FL, GA and Miss bands...granted they always had 100 more members and that makes a huge difference in judging, but they were good!

Doesn't ED White have a Southern Jaguar type band?

Five SEC bands have been awarded The Sudler Trophy -- the Heisman for college marching bands.

2000 - Georgia
2002 - LSU
2003 - Alabama
2004 - Auburn
2006 - Arkansas

Arkansas winning that is pretty questionable. But a school can only win it once, so I guess they start to run out of schools to choose.

Which is why it means nothing.

Eventually everyone gets one.

It would mean something if they didn't give one out every year or if a school could win multiples.
