Second team would DESTROY ESPN's team, just IMHO.

Maybe, but they'd have to do it on the ground...no way they'd pass on that defense...Bailey & Patterson were both lock-down corners and with Barron and Berry over the top, they'd have a hard time going through the air...plus the pass rush would be pretty stout as well...

If you were building a team to win games, you would take Reed over Beckham?

As you said it depends on how you look at it. I think ESPN attempted to factor in career production and hardware. Obviously those are somewhat subjective depending on the system, team needs, injuries, and the national landscape.

So you look at Beckham, and his production was not as off the charts this year because of how complimentary Landry was. If he were THE guy he very well could have put up crazy numbers, and even garnered some national recognition.

You put a nickle on 3rd team but not first team just to leave out Honey Badger

You know damn well he's a first team SEC in last 20 years. Dude is incredible. Proved it in college as a Heisman finalist that singlehandidly won games for us and in the pros where he would've been a finalist for RDPOY.

Who do you boot off the list to make room for HB?

Nick Fairly and Cam were left off their list.

ESPN must not watch much football

He didn't make the list, ESPN did. I made up a second and third team list and only included TM on the last one to avoid a shite fit. He wasn't a better college cornerback than any of the 4 I listed, but I knew if I left him off completely then a post like yours would happen. But it happened anyway

They were both one year wonders. Hard to put them in over guys that were great throughout their career

Would be an incredible roster, you have a good list but it is entirely too focused on the late 2000's. With the late 90 State and UT teams, Auburn's groups under Bowden and Tubby, Ole Miss and Arkansas mid 2000 teams, not to even mention the obvious rosters you've hit on. Truly an excellent era.

I'll give my shot at it.

Offense
QB - Johnny Manziel
RB - Darren McFadden
RB - Carnell Williams
WR - Craig Yeast
WR - Josh Reed
TE - Jason Witten
AP - Percy Harvin
OL - Michael Oher
OL - Alan Faneca
OL - Chris Samuels
OL - Shawn Andrews
C - Maurice Pouncey

Defense
DL - Wallace Gilberry
DL - Glenn Dorsey
DL - David Pollack
DL - Fletcher Cox
LB - Jarvis Jones
LB - Patrick Willis
LB - Danny Trevathan
CB - Champ Bailey
CB - Fred Smoot
S - Bacarri Rambo
S - Eric Berry

Special Teams
K - Billy Bennett
P - Drew Butler

Some obscure guys in there but more in line with how I remember the past 16 years. Specifically some of the guys from Vandy and Kentucky that had outstanding careers and went unnoticed. I tried to base selections only on SEC performance and not so much their continued success in the NFL.

Alshon Jeffery not being on 2nd or 3rd team is a joke. 2nd in career receiving yardage in SEC history. Better numbers than Jones, Cobb, Price and Rice. That was all with him being a fatty one year!

I'd like to see a team with only those players that made it to the BCS Championship game.

I struggled with Jeffrey. Only listing 2 WR's kind of handcuffs you though. He's got a great argument at even being first team, but there have been a lot of great WR in the league in this time period.

Dwayne Bowe
Earl Bennett
DJ Hall
Odell Beckham
Devery Henderson
Fred Gibson
Brandon Lafell
Mike Evans
Mike Wallace
Riley Cooper

You could probably make a case for all those guys

I agree there have been a ton of good ones. In my mind though Jeffery is up there just behind Reed and Green. Put up tons of yardage against a lot of double teams and also made amazing catches ala Green. SC also played against a lot of elite teams during his 3 year run. Lattimore and Jeffery dominated their competition. Lattimore just couldn't avoid the unlucky and big hits. Cobb was a great all around player but did not have near the effectiveness as Jeffery as a pure receiver!

CJ Mosely on the team?

I'd pick Bradie James, Brandon Spikes, or Donta Hightower over him

Landry or Reed over Baron and it's semi legit.

Per ESPN:

Offense:

QB - Tim Tebow
RB - Mark Ingram
RB - Darren McFadden
WR - AJ Green
WR - Josh Reed
TE - Jason Witten
AP - Percy Harvin
OL - Shawn Andrews
OL - Barrett Jones
OL - Marcus McNeill
OL - Chris Samuels
C - Maurice Pouncey

Defense:

DL - Jadeveon Clowney
DL - Glenn Dorsey
DL - John Henderson
DL - David Pollack
LB - C.J. Moseley
LB - Patrick Willis
LB - Al Wilson
CB - Champ Bailey
CB - Patrick Peterson
S - Mark Barron
S - Eric Berry

Special Teams:

PK - Billy Bennett
P - Dustin Colquitt
RS - Derek Abney

That's actually one of the better thought-out all star teams put together IMHO. Hard to really argue with any of them.

Al Wilson may be my favorite all-time SEC LB. And John Henderson at DT/DL ... sheesh, what a D UT had in '98!

Had Peyton Manning been around a year or two longer when the BCS kicked-in, would he be rated better than Tebow, even without a Championship?
