SDS's Matt Hayes: Time to Include the CFP Games before Voting for Heisman

At some point this must be addressed and can’t continue to be ignored.
Especially with the expanded Playoff 2 seasons away.
It’s time for the Heisman Trophy Trust to amend its rules, push back the voting deadline and declare a winner of the greatest individual award in sports after the college football season.
Not before the postseason begins.
“People have slept on Stetson Bennett for too long,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said after another epic Playoff performance by Bennett.
Here’s the thing: If the Heisman vote were this week, Bennett — Georgia’s 2-time national champion quarterback — would win in a landslide.
If the Heisman vote were after the Playoff last season, Bryce Young still would’ve won big — even after Alabama lost to Georgia in the national championship game.

Anyone could have been successful with that roster

Bennett aside, it doesn't make sense to vote for the best player before seeing the best* teams play against each other, and to see how the best players on those teams play in the biggest spotlight.
We've seen our share of Heisman winners outplayed in the playoffs over the years.

Stetsons a modern day AJ McCarron, but georgia fans aren’t ready for that conversation

Maybe. Caleb Williams also had a great bowl game.

Man LSU fans are taking Stetson’s success pretty hard

really? cause bryce young had a roster that was every bit as good and he lost twice

Their logic is insanely flawed according to them Stetson is a mediocre QB with just an insane amount of NFL talent not seen since 2019 LSU but that can’t be it because 2019 LSU can’t ever be touched

AJ McCarron, huh?
Stetson Bennett versus Oregon (#15), South Carolina (#23), Tennessee (#6), Mississippi St (#20), LSU (#16), Ohio (#4), and TCU (#2).
National rankings against AP ranked teams (season ending)
147 completions, 204 attempts 72.1%(#1 in the country by P5 QBs)
2,372 yards (#2 in country behind Caleb Williams)
10.7 yards per attempt (#1 in country)
20 TDs (#1 in country)
3 INTs
QB efficiency rating 190.99 (#1 in country)
Sacked 2 times (both against Ohio)
86 rushing yards.
7 rushing TDs
3.58 ypr
Out of all of those AP ranked teams, UGAs WR Corp might rank last.
Maybe the kid is damn good.

He won back to back titles and might make millions as a backup QB in the NFL? Gee, how insulting.

Stop trying to give individual awards for team success. Stetson isn't even the best player on his own squad

Lmao just stating facts bro, it’s okay to accept the truth

ok so you wanted jalen carter to win the heisman? stfu
Posted on 1/11/23 at 12:34 pm to rockchlkjayhku11
Bowers deserved the heisman. I’d agree with that.

Doesn't necessarily mean anyone on Georgia should win it. The best player on that offense is Bowers.
Nobody outside SOME Georgia fans thinks Stetson is elite

Stetson is the MVP of our team. Do what you want with that info.

Uga fans don’t vote for the heisman, or CHAMPIONSHIP game MVP’s, so this is the low level retard logic.

quote:Good for him, but waiting until after the bowls and playoffs gives a good comparison for how those best players play in the biggest games. Stroud, Duggan, and Bennett could be further compared to Williams based on their individual performances in those extra games to see if anyone nudges the scales in their favors compared to playing a regular season and potentially a conference championship.
Maybe. Caleb Williams also had a great bowl game.
