My point is PK isn't the magic bullet you're making him out to be.

Again, you're comparing a defense of Hermans players to a defense that PK put together. He's not a "magic bullet", but he is without a doubt a top 3 DC in CFB.

OSU wide receivers are very good, Sayin has a lot of talent. I believe Texas is going to win this game. But I'm not taking the OSU wide receivers for granted as much as you are. That's for sure.

I haven't once said anything remotely close to something that could be interpreted has taking the OSU wide receivers "for granted". They are the best WR core in college football. I simply stated that PK will have something in mind to be able to try and slow down their production. That could be bracketing Smith like they did last year, sending lots of pressure to put the rookie QB under duress. It's just like he did at UW, when he used to drop 8 against the air raid.

WR2 this year was WR3 last year and had 50 catches for 700 yards

WR3 was WR4 last year only had 14 catches

The big difference is the #1 TE who transferred in who had 50 catches and 700 yards for Purdue last year.

The outside weapons are fine

The OL is returning GCG in the middle. The tackles are of course a question as both left but they obviously go up against very good edge rushers every day in practice (as do Texas' OTs going against their stud DEs/Edges)

RBs are "greenish" but that's a position you can plug and play often if you have talent

Agreed. The games can’t get here soon enough.

You have a lot of pieces in the back end that are great athletes.

Just inexperienced.

And I like Taafe a lot as a person and as a leader/ representative of the team. Great kid. Great story.

Nickel might be a good fit based on football IQ - but that’s a quickness and speed matchup that I expect to be tested (based on the Washington game)…

It’ll be a chess match!

You got all those good receivers but noone to get him the ball
That QB might be good next year. At best by end of year, but first game starting against Texas. Collin Simmons is about to terrorize that poor kid

Texas has better chance vs this team than they did in 05, even with Vince Young

Not just Barron. I'd argue Mukuba was just as important in different ways. Ended up being a 2nd round draft choice and was projected as being a potential rookie starter for the Eagles before his recent hamstring injury. Mukuba transferring from Clemson helped to transform that secondary.

I do like the pieces Texas has. McDonald and Williams at safety. Taaffe at nickel. Muhammed locking down one side and Guilbeau/Black battling it out for the other (Guilbeau will be the starter game 1). But while they have a lot of talent, they do not have as much experience heading into the season last year's DBs had. And last year's group faced Ohio State at the end of the year. Not the opening game.

Not to mention, Texas replaced it's entire secondary coaching staff, too.

While all of that is true, I don't believe the biggest component has been mentioned.. Our pass rush was almost nonexistent in 2023.. whereas it was beastly in 2024.. Penix played a great game no doubt, but we never were able to get pressure on him, either by design to keep him in the pocket or because we couldn't get home..

Michigan had a completely different game plan against Washington and Penix probably had the worst game of his career.. they pressured him all day long and it seemed he had the yips by the end of the game..

Hindsight is 20/20 I suppose.. Either way, our pass rush played a huge role in relation to how our secondary played last year. QB's had to make quick decisions, which allowed our DBs to play tighter coverage, which turned into a lot of interceptions. We played a lot more man last year as well.

Gonna be a fun 1st game.. win or lose, I expect both teams to be in the hunt later in the season.

The refs will cheat for Texas like they cheated for Ohio St. last year
Whoever is #1 and making NCAA most money will get the nod

Sure sure. He was so dominant last season how can anyone sleep? 9 sacks across 14 games, with 6 of those being against UTSA, Arky, Kentucky and Ms. State.

He's a very very good player, but OSU has good players who play Edge/DE too so I don't think he's going to be someone they can't prepare for

Texas folk talk a lot of junk when they aren't returning a starting QB either and they are returning exactly 1 OL from their team. Arch is gonna get demolished

This year's pass rush is the best I've ever seen at Texas in my lifetime. Simmons, Burke, Spence, Moore, Hill plus we'll see what the youngsters bring, in Terry, Jackson, Smith.

I'm not saying Texas wins the game, but the biggest mismatch in this game is going to be the Texas front seven against the Ohio State offense.

It's the pregame. I've seen a whole lot of confidence expressed by both sides. Let's not pretend it's just Texas fans who feel like a W is practically a certainty.

Carnal Tate fills wr2 role and Inniss at 3.

No comment on the others until I watch them against Texas.
