I think you hit it on the nose. No there isn't miles and miles of tailgating like Baton Rouge, but there were plenty of places for us to tailgate.
You have to know where to go out in Atlanta, but it has a better night life than any city in the SEC. Some of it may not be our cup of tea, but I think you probably didn't get in the right place.

I don't understand why the field looks so bad at LP. Hell most colleges have nicer looking grass. If they want to be cheap they should just go with turf.

I agree, but it is what it is.
It's obviously a factor with the way the Big 12 and ACC are spread out. Its a factor with the location.
Just thinking about the past few teams to take a trip to the SECCG. Your looking at a 7 hour plus trip for every team other than LSU, Bama, Arky, and possibly AU. I'm not sure about the drive from Auburn to NOLA.
I think the cenrtalized location should play a factor. There are a couple of other factors that come into play. It's the first of December and we all know what happens at the end of December. Tickets this year were going for 300+ for a single. That doesn't include lodging, gas, and food.
Leave it in Atlanta and keep NOLA for New Years and the Sugar Bowl. Don't screw with the special circumstances that come with a trip to NOLA.

Most colleges don't have the wear and tear that LP gets. I went to a concert there last July and the whole infield was covered with crap.
July in Nashville + covered grass = burnt grass
Not too mention that at least one other college plays there during the season.
You think about State, besides having the best turf management people around, they only play 7 or 8 games there a year.

Here are two alternative, yet odd choices to possibly be considered if one wants to insist on the game being outside:
1) Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte. Very close to the South Carolina line (SEC Country still). A relatively close drive from 4 SEC schools, UK, USC, UGA, TN. The Panthers market the State of South Carolina heavily
2) The Sombrero, Tampa. Would be a great advantage for UF should they make the game but it is not a central location for the rest of the SEC Schools.

Are these spots near the stadium? I know of places in Atlanta that are cool that aren't near the stadium. I was talking about leading up to the game and right after. In Nashville I think the stadium is in somewhat walking distance to places. In N.O. they are also.

Athens and Nashville have better nightlife than Atlanta.

Hell if some in UGA country get their wish and the Florida-Georgia game is moved, I wouldn't mind seeing the SECCG moved as well. Jacksonville can hold the largest crowd.
The ACC championship game does not sell because it is a bad product. No one cares about a poor quality game. The same can be said about the SEC basketball tournament. The crowds were not bad because it was in Tampa. The crowds were bad because the teams weren't very good.

Don't kid yourself. We would have had bad crowds regardless of how good or bad SEC basketball was/is.
Tampa is just too far out of the way, and there's not enough to do when you get there.

Your comments about Nashville's LP Field is not current. Going back 3 years ago everything you said about the field was true then but not now. They have made some major changes in the field and it was in great shape this past year at the end of the season.
I'm in support of the SECCG venue moving around for SEC fans. Nashville is a great place for any type of CG for the SEC. The city is just the right size for a great fan experience. I would like to see the venue move to every SEC city where possible as long as it benefits the fans and teams for playing the game.

New Orleans should get it every so often.
+1. It should rotate to a Western Division state. As I said earlier, in 2005 both the SEC Champ and runner up had to return to Atlanta that year to play their bowl games which should nullify the argument about returning to New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl.

Sod update:
This ain't a good set up
quote:
During the season, after the college team has finished play, the entire field is once again resodded, usually around mid-November. “We replace everything but the end zones. It amounts to about 51,000 square feet of sod,” says Porch. “We used to just resod the middle of the field, but you can never get it to really match. So, now we do everything, so it all looks the same.” The process is scheduled for a two-week window between games and takes about one week to complete, giving the field another week to set up. The job is contracted out, but Porch and his team are there to oversee the process.

Look at Either Raymond James in Tampa or Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte!

Get LSU into the Big 12 in the Cental Part of the country. Tennn and South Carolina rae 700 miles from BR.
Rather jave LSU play in Houston than Atlanta
