it is laughable that you're taking shots at our baseball attendance, that would be like me slamming your basketball attendance.
keep going with that capacity %, that's what you need to focus on. report back with your findings.

I'm just saying your small venue vs large venue argument doesn't work when you're not packing the house every. single. game.

why would I care what is more popular? I'm just judging by this board, the amount of baseball related posts far outnumber the amount of basketball threads (especially if you take out Kentucky fans who obviously care more about basketball than baseball).
Kentucky fans only have a presence on this board during basketball season.

You're the one digging and trying to distort FACTS.
The facts still don't back up your assertion that baseball is more popular than basketball. Basketball still has higher attendance. If the demand for more seats at baseball stadiums is there, then the supply will follow. I guess we'll see. But right now, basketball is more popular in the SEC.

Shows how little attention you pay. Every single UK poster online right now is a regular during football season.

How about everybody is right. SEC support for baseball is stronger than any other conference but basketball arenas are bigger for a reason, namely that college basketball is more popular overall.
Educate me now. Why do so many in the SEC dismiss basketball so quickly? Supporting football is not a reason to dismiss a different sport and why wouldn't SEC members want to dominate in all sports instead of just one (or 2)? Nationally, I don't think there is any question that basketball comes in second as far as popularity and TV exposure goes. If that's the case, why is it dismissed so quickly by so many? And I don't think simply saying because its football country answers the question. It can be football country and still look to excel in every sport instead of "not giving a frick".

In the SEC and most of the South I have to agree with the Hog fan (I almost puked). But nationally CBB is bigger, you have to consider the climate and that 3 of the major population bases where college sports are popular are cold weather Ohio, Michigan, New England.

Because most SEC basketball teams aren't good, thus most fan bases are apathetic. I still think the fact that CFB consumes almost half of the basketball season that a lot of SEC fans have football hangovers through January and February, right until college baseball season starts. that is of course unless their team is a tournament calibur team.
just my opinion.

I have my theories but that is (and has been) a thread all it's own.
Long story short: I think since the SEC has come to be the premier football conference over the last decade, many want to maintain that image. And they somehow think being good at basketball will take away from that. They also take the "football as a religion" thing a little too seriously, and liking basketball makes you less "SEC".

I dismiss that because as soon as a SEC team becomes "powerful" the fanbase ramps up. I think its the level of instruction and coaching in the South and popularity of football.

True. But I don't know how some fan bases would feel if the SEC as a whole ever became better in basketball than in football. Not that it would ever happen, but I think some see it as a threat that it might. And well, that just wouldn't be "SEC" now would it?

You see it a lot with the lower tier schools in the SEC. Being a "football school" of that caliber shouldn't be anything to be proud of, but to them it is. Because to most of the SEC it's better to be a "football school" that is awful at football than a "basketball school".

I guess you were not around for the 90s either...

I understand that for the majority there would be more pride taken in the dominance in football but I don't understand why there wouldn't be some amount of pride in the SEC dominating basketball too, even if not a basketball fan yourself. I mean, if you're putting a product out there, isn't the goal to put the best product out there? I know I'm jumping the gun because we're not in the SEC quite yet, but I certainly don't think of us as being in the Big 12 anymore, so when I look at the standings and see 3 SEC teams (Kentucky, Mizzou and Florida) in the top 10 (I know that will change after this weekend) I think its awesome that the SEC is the best basketball conference too instead of "frick that".

You also must factor in the number of games per season for a sport when arguing attendance.
Football is very popular for many reasons, but one reason is because of the limited amount of games. Baseball can seem lacking but much of that is due to so many games.
Fuel to the fire.

IMO, College Basketball is DEFINITELY the second most popular sport to CFB. Being from Missouri with two MLB teams, I'm biased of course.
