there is no upside to a championship game.
I've been proposing to cancel the game and the SEC award championship and standings order using the conference tie-breaker rules. With 9 games there will be less record ties and that CCG is of no value and is bad news for the loser.

The loser this year still made the playoffs, so your argument doesn't hold water.

True.
Vandy really sucks.
You are dumb.
The "SEC Bubba" is strong in this one.

Of course the loser made the playoffs, just like Texas did last year.
The point is the loser, both teams actually, had to play the Championship game and risk injury. Using the tie-breaker rules to establish 1st and 2nd place without playing that game still puts both teams in the playoffs, but now they don't have to play that CCG at risk of injury.
Suppose Alabama lost the CCG but won it all this year. They would have played. 12 reg. season, 1 CCG, 4 playoff games for a total of 17 games. My proposal would put them in the same position with one less game. game.

Both teams lost and the loser lost to a team that had like 80th SOS.
No point in taking blows to your roster, morale etc etc

Don't move the goalposts.
You said it was bad for the loser of the game. It hasn't been so far.

opening weekend premiere OOC games should also be cancelled….
it amazes me how many want to play fewer good games every year.
the CFB schedule is already filled with too many cupcakes every year.

Yeah…nobody like to be recognized as the conference winner!

I’m open to a 24 team playoff…..AFTER we’ve used 12 & 16 team size long enough to see what worked & didn’t work.
To change now is only because people are griping about who was left out AFTER the p/o is over.

What we need is a ban on anyone playing FCS teams
I get it, but many (most) FCS teams need the pay check from their one FBS matchup to keep their programs solvent. Banning those games means FCS football goes away.
I'm not willing to go that far.

Not moving the goalposts, Fool. The loser gets to play the CCG and the 1st round of 8 game. My proposal moves the 2nd place team straight to the 1st round of 8 without playing the CCG. Sheesh, pull your head out.

Not to get into this area, but I’ve ALWAYS pushed for 1 schedule format for all conferences to avoid these debates.

People have been griping about the time between meetings/rematches forever.

In fairness, these games never occur until post season. Therefore, if we had cross-conference scheduling, this could be answered.

Then how do you sort them as seeds?
Posted on 1/20/26 at 8:58 am to Victor R Franko
& you’ld be fine like Duke this year in a 5-team tie?
