He's 61 years old. How much does he realistically have left in the tank? If I'm Texas, I'd rather look for an up and coming youngster with a reputation as a recruiter. Somebody in 40-50 years old range who can build a program over the course of twenty years instead of just a 5-7 year rent-a-legend.
If I'm Texas I hope he at least comes for 5-6 years and changes the program around. Quite simple really. Saban gets a chance to really cement his legacy by winning a NC at a third university.

Oh come the frick on with this shite. You act as if this is the only way he can validate himself as one of the best. NEWS FLASH. He's already considered one of the best...I'm sick of this argument.

one of the best
idk about "the" best

Exactly. There were not formal discussion between Saban and Texas Regents. Just this asshat trying to be a big shot.
Nobody has ever said that anything that was done regarding Saban was official. Hall and a couple of boosters had discussions with Sexton that were very positive. The boosters miscalculated the strength of their relationship with Mack and tried to convince him to resign. It failed. They had a shitty plan and it could go no further until Mack was out of the way. Nothing was official. Had Mack taken them up on their offer, they felt like they could get BOR approval and make the hire.

That's right, because, currently, his legacy is REALLY in doubt.

You're thinking of the 2013 Georgia Bulldogs, recently losers to Vanderbilt.

quote:agreed. He actually has more to lose by going to Texas. If hr didn't win a NC there, it'd be a blemish on his record.

Bryant won 6 NC's and 14 SEC titles. That will never be topped.
Saban is a good choice for #2 on the all-time list though.

Don't worry about it. Back in '07 when Tubby Smith left, there were rumors that Billy Donovan had bought a farm in Lexington. Obviously turned out to be nothing, even though message boards and fan sites turned it into "rock hard" evidence that he was coming to UK. Wouldn't believe a word of it until he signs papers.

What? I thought Texas wanted Muschamp?
Posted on 10/23/13 at 5:22 pm to mbarnet1
Billy bought that farm to breed all of his 5 star recruits. It's pretty genius if you think about it.

Haven't you heard? Texas has enough money to get Saban as the HC and bring Boom in as the DC. WE'RE frickED.

How many programs are great enough to have coaches the caliber of Shula and Dubose coach their team to a 10-win season? How many programs can say that their last eight full-time head coaches were able to produce at one 10-win season for them? No program elevates the stature of their head coaches like Bama does.

If he leaves it is probably because he no longer wants his repuatation damaged by being the coach of the biggest cheaters in the history of football. Any sport really.
When Auburn wins it's because they do things the right way and have a great coach. All in. Family.
When Bama wins it's because they are cheating in any way possible.
Sounds logical.

Mike Sherman and Dennis Franchione had a 9-win season apiece at A&M.
R.C. Slocum had 3 11-win seasons.

Of course it's not you dolt. Catch up if you can. The man has an ego the size of Texas and is never satisfied regardless of what he accomplishes. Are you a 12 yr old girl?
