So if a player were to earn a scholarship offer through his play in high school, then slacks off and doesn't put in any work on the field in college, the coaches should feel morally obligated to keep the kid on scholarship? Why shouldn't the player have to live up to his end of the bargain?

Wait, I thought it was because the kids wanted more playing time?

Have you heard or seen any of the players accuse Saban or his staff of wronging them??
Hell an AU player is suing for his treatment by the staff.

I'm not one of the guys making that argument. While it could be true in a couple of cases, I think that most of these players are being shown the door. And I have no problem with that. If any of these guys had gotten out on the practice field, busted their asses, and earned their spot, they'd still have a scholarship.

Not really, we are coming in to this season with 55 4* or higher players and by the 2010 season we will have around 65 4* or higher players on the 85 man roster.
Let's not forget Utah kicked your arse with a recruiting class ranked 41st.

So you believe that they're lazy and not putting up enough effort?

That's all you've got? I mean, you don't have some argument as to why YOUR "uninterested" opinion of what's going on behind closed doors is the truth instead of the more logical reason?

I can't speak to their work ethics. What I said is that they didn't earn their spots. Funny thing is, the guy who makes the decision about who earned what spot is the same guy who signs off on the scholarship renewals.

This is an argument, it's people expressing their opinions on the happenings of the Alabama football program. Nowhere is anyone claiming to know the definitive truth.

Well, they are either lazy and not giving enough effort, or they just don't have what it takes to play at the level Saban requires. Bottom line, if they can't get the job done, then the boss will find someone that can.
This isn't just about football, this is LIFE. If I can't perform at work and do my job, then I feel sure that my boss will replace me with someone that will.
Nick Saban is going into his 4th recruiting season at Bama. If these recruits, along with their parents don't understand what it takes to play for Saban, then they have over 100 other programs in this country to chose from.
If they feel as negatively as some folks on here about Nick Saban, then I would think they would go play for another coach, wouldn't you?

So, what you're saying is, while you know nothing, you're condemning a coach and a university for what you think is unfair practices? But, you have absolutely no knowledge of the situation other than you know some players, who, by the way, have not complained, have transferred? So, it's ok for you to make wild accusations based solely on the fact that you want to believe that what is happening is wrong?
Am I missing the point?

Contrary to popular belief, Bama fan's know that Utah won the Sugar Bowl. It's weird how fans of every team Bama beat last year choose not to brag on their own team, they've become Utes.
aarakis, I know you've said you have no allegiance to a team, but the Utah shite is really beating a dead horse.

Might be dead, but it doesn't change the facts. Bama fan boasted of Bama's 4* talent and Utah is a prime example of how over rated such measures can be.
Also, since we're dealing with facts, in 2008 Saban over signed by TEN. That is no small number to cut in order to meet NCAA scholarship requirements.

arrakis,
Thank you for your concern for our beloved Crimson Tide. Now go eat a bowl of dicks.

Yeah, it's overrated. I expect MSU to win the SEC this year. Anything can happen in ONE game. Anything CAN'T happen over the course of 12 or 14 games.

While we all appreciate your concern, Saban hopes that you will remain calm. He thinks it will work out.

if a very high level student gets an academic scholarship and is motivated to compete with other high level students, don't they try to attend a school where they are competing with the best? Of course they do.
No. Not at all. They attend school where they think they will be able to secure a job making the most money. They would not go to a top school if they knew the school might kick them out, if a smarter kid came along.
Poor analogy.

Another aweful analogy. The kids have busted their tail and held up their end of the bargain. They have performed in the classroom and bled on the field or they would have been gone long ago. This is simply saban running kids off to make room for the bigger better deal.
