Because the BCS is about putting the two best teams in the title game. LSU was unanimously #1 and there were realistically only two options for #2. Alabama was believed to be the better team between them and OSU and so they got the ranking. In the end it turned out right.
You are literally sitting here asking why someone chose the correct choice between 2 options.

Man I wish that before we were actually just handed the National Title by those corrupt people at the BCS/ACA we bought off that we would have actually been made to play a game to determine the winner. Perhaps they could have seeded this game 1 vs 2. They would have made a lot of money with a game like that. Perhaps even play it in the SuperDome which is a great neutral location in beautiful southern town.

Before that game though, Jefferson had a resume of playing pretty well against us. Certainly better than Jarrett Lee
