How could anyone who knows anything about Saban be SHOCKED?

Saban cost himself some money when he said he's too old to start over. He would have been much better served to just stay quiet and let Bama throw more money at him.
Saban could say I don't want another dime for the next two months, walk into the AD's office and say give me another two mil or I'm walking. Guess what the AD is gonna do?

This implies that Bama is cheap and he has to use "leverage" of another job to get a raise at Bama. He's gotten his contract extended and his pay raised nearly each year the past 4 seasons. He's already the highest paid coach in all of college football. It isn't like Bama is underpaying him now.
If an offer elsewhere comes - or even if it doesn't - all he has to do is ask for the amount of money he wants to make and Bama will give it to him. It is the most one sided negotiation in the history of negotiations.
The Texas info comes from one of two places:
1) Sexton. If so, then it is Saban approved. This is the more unlikely of the two scenarios.
2) Texas. If so, it is not Saban approved and they likely lost any shot (however small that may have been) at getting him in the future.

I could like watching Saban teams again, that's for sure. Can one imagine the fricking teams that guy would put together at TEXAS?
I wish he would leave just so half the Alabama fanbase would have a meltdown and somehow lose internet connection and we never hear from them again.

Texas can more than likely scoff at that price.
As arrogant and most of you are, you guys can not NOT admit that Texas has the ability to basically do what they want and pay who they want and how much they want.
Again, imagine what he could recruit to TEXAS.

How so? I for one believe it was leaked by Texas and Saban doesn't truly have interest, but for arguments sake how exactly did they lose their shot. Bama didn't when they leaked it with Saban. The Dolphins didn't when they leaked it. If Saban did have any interest, he wouldn't say no because of some report.

Well, they aren't doing it yet. Saban makes more than Brown and has for years.

I CAN admit that Texas has the ability to pay what they want. That said, you can NOT admit that Bama has the ability to match any realistic offer Texas would make. They aren't going to offer a college coach $20M per year. Anything $12M per year or under is matched by Bama without so much as a vote. No one would bat an eyelash at that. What do you honestly think Texas would offer in terms of salary that Bama couldn't/wouldn't match? Honest question.

I see this a lot. He's finished with the #1 recruiting class in 4 of the last 6 years. How exactly is he struggling to recruit at Bama? Hell, the 2008 class had 6 first round picks in it. The 2009 class had has so far had 5 first round picks with AJ, Steen, and Stinson yet to be drafted. The 2010 class had 1 first rounder so far with Hubbard, Belue, and Mosley yet to be drafted. What's he going to recruit at Texas? 7 first rounders?

Because nobody has ever heard that before from him. Like I said before, you gumps are safe until he gets on television saying that "he will not be the next coach of the University of Texas"
Once that statement is made..... he gone.
He already said it.
Then he went and beat Texas A&M in their own house.
I think we're okay.

Bama and Dolphins situations were different. The Dolphins pursuit was public and real-time. It was being reported as it happened. The Bama pursuit was through channels in December and Saban said he wouldn't visit it until after the season.
This Texas pursuit was months ago, should have remained in confidence, and was leaked for Texas' own benefit during the season. It creates a distraction that isn't wanted and could have been avoided.
I personally think Texas knows they can't get him so they leaked this info to show their fan base "we tried" all while putting more heat on Brown. That basically makes Saban a pawn that Texas knows they can't get, so they are using for their own benefit. He won't like that.

I agree with this completely but you are being naive that this "leak" would cause Saban to run away "if" he had any real interest.

Not at all. In fact, I think this more than anything signals he might actually be considering the new challenge. Think about it. When anyone who's getting older says "I'm just too old to do X", doesn't that really mean deep down that person wants to do X really, really bad?

Only read the thread title OP, but lol if you think coaching at Bama is a challenge.
I could coach the Tide to a damn national championship.

So what if someone from Texas talked to Saban's agent. What's all the drama about?

Or the likely reason and most logical is Sexton releases these statements to get his client paid more money. He is not stupid, he knows Bama is willing to match Texas dollar for dollar.
No, this is not the most likely. In fact, this is the least likely reason for the leak. If Nick Saban wants more money, he asks for more money and Battles writes the check. Coaches that have won three national championships in four years don't negotiate. They get.
Saban is Sexton's dream client. Sexton gets paid for doing absolutely nothing other than negotiate contracts with Ford.
This particular leak happened because they wanted to embarrass Mack Brown and plant the seed in the still loyal fanbase that they could have had Saban.
