Saban will retire after next season and, as he waves goodbye, he'll be smiling and saying "thanks for the memories...suckers"

I'd say it's probably because Stallings reminded everyone of Bear Bryant.

No one will ever catch the "Bear" In national championships. he is legendary and will be discussed forever in bama folk lore (just like Hank Williams). You post this where it belongs on a bama board and you will be flamed badly by the "true" Gumps of bama football for being sacra-religious!

winning at LSU doesn't necessarily make it a "happy place"

I know that you hope that happens but I don't think he will. I think he is a gump.

Finebaum was talking to Mrs. Saban after the SEC CG and he said this is no big deal for y'all as you have experienced this before and her reply was, We have never experienced anything like this before.

Alabama is a magical place. When you are winning there is not a better place in the world to coach.
you fricking Idiot, i could probably find that same bullshite responce she gave at LSU in 2003 and 2004.

I think we should test your theory. I just want to see what happens. You might be right.

I don't get it. stallings won the NC in 1992 right? why did he not bury the bear forever?

Stallings didn't get the Bammers' love until he was gone. Bammers were always complaining about how Stallings always won ugly. Now they all love him, and he's highly respected.

The Bama folks have been humbled over the last decade and a half. Saban pulling them out of that crapper puts him in a whole different league than Stallings.

Saban has God-like status around here. It's really a little strange, but I think some of the fans are bigger Saban fans than Bama fans. I've never been around a fanbase where so many bumper stickers, t-shirts, etc. refer to the coach rather than the team.

that's right, he has. Here is a thought...
with all of the Tiders great 'tradition',
where would the football program be today if Saban hadn't made the mistake to go to the
NFL? Seems clear...if any major college with tremendous support for the football program
hires Saban, and gives him everything he requests, he will win and win BIG. If the timing
had been different, he would be at a different university, building an elite program there.
And that university would be a 'magical place'.

As long as Paul Bryant Jr is in charge (which he is) he will never allow the Bear to take a back seat to Saban. This my friend is what may drive Saban away.

The sad thing is the LSU folks that still dream that saban is coming back to LSU would do the same thing

Still no hits on my fishing attempt I linked above. So the theory about this drawing flames if posted on a Bama board seems to be in doubt.
