As a Bama fan, that's a dick move. No one should restrict where players can transfer to.

Huh? The point I'm making is that the non compete clause would be enforced. If you sign a contract that says you aren't allowed to leave for, say, any school in your division unless you are terminated, I don't see why a judge wouldn't uphold that. It's the same argument against Smith at the moment. There are plenty of other options.
I understand your point, but the difference is in the language. This happens in pro sports all the time. It's called the Reverse Clause.

Yes. I would feel the same way. College athletics is supposed to be for the kids. Let them go where they want, no penalty.

Surely you think they shouldn't be allowed to move where ever they want with no restrictions (sitting out a year). Do you not see problems that would arise from something like that?

It's funny how the roaches come out of the woodwork when anything sheds a negative light on UA football.

There are probably 10-12 things that attract a kid to certain schools. For many, the chance of playing on a championship caliber team is high on most lists. There is nothing wrong with a kid coming out of high school thinking he can play against anyone in the country but unfortunately kids go to school and realize that they aren't ready to compete on a championship level. There is a cost to learning you were wrong though and sometimes your not allowed to correct your own mistakes. I'm sure he and his parents knew the rules but we live in a time where we don't learn and go through things but would rather find a way to circumvent around them. Mo Smith find yourself a good school outside the SEC and play ball.

Oh yeah the LSU fans are so reflective and engage in critical self examination all the time.

I do think they should be allowed to move without sitting out a year. Most of these kids will never play past college. They shouldn't be punished for going after playing time at the best possible school for them. I would say coaches shouldn't be allowed to initiate the switch, but it should be fair game if the player contacts another school first.

We don't actually need him this year per se. UGA is the odds on favorite to win the East next season and loses a few secondary players to eligibility. So it's probably in Bamas best interest to let him leave now...
Being a grad student should be different but the rules are in place.

Who?
Elliot Porter, a few years ago. I think LSU had several late qualifiers and weren't expecting everyone to qualify but all did. Miles offered him a grayshirt, but I think he asked for a release (which was granted). Same thing happened to another dude in LSU's class that year but he took the grayshirt...

all correct
point being Jones did not prevent LSU from winning a title and beating Bama 41-34

1st-Why didn't he ask for a release before spring practice so that other kids could have been worked into his position?
2nd- After he listed Miami as a school he would transfer to and Saban approved that request, why did he suddenly change his mind?
Does anybody in their right mind expect the coaches to want a player that doesn't want to be there to have any involvement with the rest of the team?
It sounds like some things that the public isn't aware of has come into play.

I didn't see his stuff in the trash but there is two sides to every story. First why would Bama let him workout or eat when he's not part of the team. Did anyone tell him he needed to remove his belongings at an earlier time. He obviously knows the rules if he requested a transfer letter before the staff even knew where he was going. There are holes to his story which some can be explained and others, maybe not but he should just man up and understand what he got his self into and move on.
