Based on what? 4 football players receiving textbooks for free from a bookstore and turning them back in at the end of the year?
Cause that's what happened right? You're a dumbass if you think that.

I can assure you that the NCAA ruling won't be faxed to the university.
That is SOP. Fax night before then overnight the ruling to them then the next day public press conference.

I cant speak for anyone else, but for me its not what happens to bama, its the slap in the back of the head to bamas fanbase. Bama used to be my second favorite team when i was younger, then i met some of the fans and thats where it ended.

Probably a good thing we don't give a shite much.
As far as sanctions.. I think football is hit lightly, since they reinstated the players involved. The other sports, I've a feeling will be hammered, I don't remember any other folks being hit with self-imposed penalties, so that will probably be costly, imo. Fortunately, I don't really give a crap about those other sports.

I know you dont care if i do, but the majority of bama fans flip their shite when bama is not mentioned in anything that has to do with college football.

Nah, just the more vocal ones.

Nobody has really been touting gloom and doom for this anyways. If it's anything more than 2 scholarships/2 years and an extension of probation i'll be blown away..
All they really deserve is an extension of the probation window.. which at Bama is far worse than the loss of scholarships. I think they're close to setting a record for being on probation longer than any other school.

There's no way we're avoiding that. That will be forthcoming for sure.

We are talking about the NCAA and a southern team. There is no telling what they'll do, they may be so pissed at USC they hammer Bama.

Yeah, I understand that, superman. Kind of pathetic when all the fans hopes come down to what happens to another team, especially before the season starts.
Ironic

According to the University of Alabama (that's the only account that we have of what happened) - that's exactly what happened. We will find out soon enough if there was more to it than that - but according to Mal Moore, President Witt, and their response to the NCAA allegations - there was no monetary gain by any of the players (including things like iPods, sweatshirts, etc), and all books were returned. The way the system works, if the books aren't returned, they are automatically charged to the individual's account. As soon as they are given the books, it is recorded in the system, and if they aren't returned they are forced to pay for them.
The NCAA prohibits student athletes from receiving books for free that are not "required" by the classes. Many (if not all) classes have "recommended" books by the professors - and according to the University, the majority of the infractions occurred when players received books for free that were not "Required", but rather only recommended by the professor.
Now, you can believe what you want... but I've read a good bit of the 67 page response to the NCAA from the University, and there is no reason to believe anything else at this point... unless you're just a conspiracy theorist and are hoping for the worst.
According to the University, more than 40 staff members - including the Provost, Vice President for Financial Affairs, and the Treasurer spent weeks investigating this matter. If the NCAA finds anything else out other than what was reported by the University - I will be thoroughly shocked.
You can read the University's report here (most of the important info is contained on pages 2-5): LINK

That I don't believe. No monetary gain my a@@. yeah I'm sure athletes 200+ of them picked up a few extra books they didn't pay for and merely wanted to have some extra reading. I don't believe anything serious will happen but I don't believe that for a minute. i'd have looked at mal like he was an idiot had he said that in front of me.

Well, like I said - the books have to be returned by the players at the end of the year in order for them to avoid having to pay for the books. So if they sold them for money - they would have had to have paid full price for the unreturned books.
What I DO think likely happened fairly widespread - and the letter does mention this - is that many of the athletes got books for other individuals (girlfriends, boyfriends, etc...) - which is also a violation, but no money involved.

I think this one's it. The guy that posted it wouldn't lie to us, and I don't ever remember him having bad info.
Sorry Auburn fan's. You can go back to your Gadsden rumors now.

Many of them already have
Go take a look at some of their boards... they are already talking about how the NCAA shouldn't let this slide by, but probably will - so they can focus on the Gadsden case and "hammer" us.
