Rule of rumor mongering #650: Locale is always a dealmaker in coaching changes.

I love this defense of rumors. most coaches couldnt care less what the city is like, unless your a tropical type of person and moving to some place where it snows year round. However in the NFL where you dont actualy have to live in the area, it matters even less for those few people

Just throwing this out there....but in a hypothetically funny world...what if Saban left and then came back as the next head coach at Auburn?

Alabama is to Auburn as LSU is to Alabama, then?

Well, there are certain protocols and rules one must follow when trolling coaching rumor threads.

I came in just to see how many people are actually entertaining this as if Saban would ever leave the perfect environment he's created for himself.

100% control, almost god-like status, and a machine that is dominating the college football landscape on a scale that very few programs have ever been able to accomplish.

He's ours.

I do find it hilarious that hiring Saban away to the pros is the best chance Tennessee has at beating us anytime soon though

1. Mass suicide in Tuscaloosa
2. Auburn threads would be littered with Saban to (blank) team
3. Finebaum's show would implode

So, 2 out of 3 aint bad.

Not posting to flame the Gumps-

Saban has both that part of the country, and the NFL, in his blood. I think he'd rather be an NFL head coach in Pittsburgh, Cleveland, etc, than he would in Miami. That part of the country appeals to him more IMO.

Age and accomplishments- he's 61, and he's done pretty much everything he can do in college. It's getting close to "now or never", if he's going to try the NFL thing again. With his kid being in college now, that's about the ideal time to make a move (you don't displace the kid).

Ego- here's something to watch: let's see how Carroll does in Seattle. If Pete has a good season, I think Nick will think he can do it too.

Now, if this was Pittsburg calling, Saban would be on priceline booking his flight before the phone hung up. I don't know if the Browns are as big a draw.

Not reading this whole thread so sorry if this is just reposting what has already been said.

Saban would be crazy to take it. I want him to either stay at Bama or come to Arkansas (lol). He's hard to beat but everyone should still want him in the SEC. He's good for the conference overall.

Now...Chizik, JLS, Joker, and Dooley......the Browns could hire them all and the conference would be better off.

So tell me, why didn't he seek out the michigan job?

I know you already said that this is just your opinion, but you really have no basis for your opinion other than he is from WV, and that did once coach in the NFL.

This is just kind of silly. You really think Saban is going to base his life off of what another coach does?

His daughter is about to graduate. No real point here.

Because Michigan ... is not in the NFL. Why would Saban leave Alabama for another college?

But the Dolphins... are in the NFL. Why did he resign from the Dolphins (remember, Huizenga wanted him to stay) to go back to college if he had wanted to be in the NFL?

Well he wanted to be in the college game at that point in time apparently, but i'm being told he loves that part of the country, so why didn't he pursue the michigan job when he left miami?

Yes. he has accomplished everything at the college level, and only has the NFL to tackle, but would you want to do it at his age with the Browns?

I know, you guys clearly don't want to lose a very successful coach right now. No offense intended in my input.

Um, yeah. Not necessarily Carroll by name, but yeah. I definitely think Nick has a giant ego, and wants to be the best. I bet that he gets the red-arse anytime he hears about USC being 2003 "co-champ".

Take a guy like Miles at LSU, I doubt he'd give a frick. Maybe laugh about it years later. Saban, I bet he still becomes angry if someone mentions it

And this is what's funny about coaching rumor threads. Suddenly every john doe on the rant can peer deep into nick saban's mind and know exactly how he feels and thinks, having never met the man none the less

that's the question to be answered. Location is a plus (and I think a negative with regards to Miami). Just my opinion, but much the same way Carroll wouldn't want, say, Buffalo, but Seattle (West Coast) was another story.
Current state of the franchise is a big negative right now; but the new owner is cleaning out the front office. Let's see what else they line up there; like someone else pointed out, it didn't take Loomis+Payton too long to get the Saints in gear. Saban would require his own Loomis, and getting the guy from Philly ain't bad at all.
