As a proud Geechee…many thanks to all of y’all for giving me 5 pages of pure amusement. The Sea Islands were making gumbo before Louisiana came into existence. Only we call it okra soup. And if you’re not using Carolina Gold rice as the accompanying dish, it’s just another variation.
