The Nazis were the National Socialist Party/ Hitler was a socialist (and a vegetarian)/ He got in bed with the big industrialists/ big business much like our current socialists because he needed their money and they needed his govt contracts. Nazi/Communist are just 2 sides of the same statist theology make the govt/state all powerful

These people are just upset that they are wing lumped in. It is a church:

quote:

Established in 1955 by Pastor Fred Phelps, the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) of Topeka, Kansas still exists today as an Old School (or, Primitive) Baptist Church. We adhere to the teachings of the Bible, preach against all form of sin (e.g., fornication, adultery [including divorce and remarriage], sodomy), and insist that the sovereignty of God and the doctrines of grace be taught and expounded publicly to all men

The core beliefs and ideologies are not the same just because Fascism and Communism worked out similar in practice.

As a spinoff discussion, what difference are you claiming this makes?

So why use the words Baptist Church in the name of their group?

It fits the narrative. The point is to incite anger and violence against themselves. Taking a large denomination as a front name works very well in this regard. Baptists get pissed that they are being mis-represented, everyone else thinks the WBC must be serious if they are a 'church'. Calling themselves the Phelps Chartered Law Firm in public just throws the lid off the whole scam and purpose of the protests.

Right Wing and Left Wing are TERRIBLE indicators of political views and are COMPLETELY misleading in this discussion, and many discussions.

Right v. Left means economic philosophy. (commie v. laissez faire capitalism)

Phelps is a Statist, but a leftist.

That is the most rediculous political diagram I've ever seen.

One policy in practice does not define ideology. You guys really need to revisit some history and politics courses.

Well, for starters they have zero affiliation with the Southern Baptist convention. They are an "independent church"

Here's how the argument goes, when I lay it out you will see how yours is flawed.

Baptists are historically right wing.
WBC are Baptists
WBC are right wing.

Your argument:

Baptists are historically right wing.
WBC are Baptists
WBC aren't Baptists.

Your third line doesn't negate the fact that Baptists are right wing and that WBC call themselves Baptists. So that thing you said about saying something over and over doesn't make it true? That actually applies to you in this situation.

So there is a monopoly on being Baptist controlled by the Southern convention? Sounds about right.
