RIP Coach Bryant.
I love that Coach could see into the future. He was an Atlanta Braves fan before they moved to Atlanta.

I feel very honored to have known the man. I am from Fordyce, Arkansas. His nephew and family were best friends of my Mom, Dad, and me. One of my Aunt's is same age and they were boy and girlfriend in Jr. High. I was around him 4 to 5 times when he would come to Fordyce. I still have one of his "houdstooth" hats that is a prized position. It has got to be 50 yrs old. I have been gone from Arkansas for 30 years, but the older I get the more I realize how important the man was to college football. He was one of a kind and their will never be another like him. I have several good stories about him. My favorite is when I got to walk with him in the mid 1960's when ABC came to Fordyce and filmed a documentary on him. It was filmed in the summer and was shown an hr before the first TV game of the year that fall. At the beginning of the show, there I am on nat'l TV walking with the "Bear" in Fordyce!! He came back often because he still had a brother and 2 sisters that still lived where they were all born. ( Moro Bottoms ). If you are ever in that part of the country, take Hwy 8 going out of Fordyce toward Warren and they have a sign erected as "The birthplace of Paul Bear Bryant". There also is a big billboard on the "bypass", Hwy 167 / 79 with a big picture of him and a quote that says " Where the legend began". Also, I have shown several people where he wrestled the bear. On main street in Fordyce. Use to be a picture show, then it was a drive thru for a bank, now it is decorated with murals and such. Pretty neat!......I grew up a Razorback and Crimson Tide fan, but now it is LSU all the way!!!!!

RIP Bear
I don't like to admit he's better than Neyland, but I know it's true. In terms of accomplishments, it's pretty hard to deny that he's the greatest ever, and in my opinion, it's not even close.
6 national titles
15 total conference titles
And the most impressive thing to me was his record his first 9 years post integration:
11-1
10-2
11-1
11-1
11-1
9-3
11-1
11-1
12-0
with a combined conference record of 58-3, giving him 8 outright conference titles and 3 national championships in 9 seasons. Simply unreal.

I still get chillbumps every time I hear his voice in the pregame videos at Bryant-Denny.
Lets keep the bickering out of this thread guys. Ignore the assholes that want to bring this down.
RIP to the greatest ever.

my grandfather (#46 back row) played with Bryant (#12 back row) and Don Hutson (#37 back row) during the 1930's at Bama....he used to tell me all kind of stories of his time playing at Bama, stories that I will pass on to my kids along with some of this Rose Bowl / National Championship memorabilia that was passed on to me...

Jan 83 must have been a bad time for Alabama fans. It just shows when old people have nothing to live for anymore they pass on. Wasn't it a week or two after he retiredd that he died?

They say that the most rampant killer of senior citizens is retirement.

I have heard other examples of this too. I can't imagine loving something that much to do it your whole life and then one day you're done. I'd probably go into crazy depression and die, if I was that old.

If that gives you chillbumps, you should look up to the pressbox and see him on the mic.

Not to take away anything from Bear, but I wonder how many games he would win under today's rules.
