As much as I wish this were the case...he's dead on about Bama.

1. Bob Stoops is 1-0 against Saban at Alabama, 1-1 against Saban in his career. You can split hairs and exchange factoids all day, such as: Saban has made four NC appearances and won all four. Stoops has made four and lost three of them. They're 1-1 against each other and Saban has almost every other edge. Let's not act like Stoops actually proved anything other than he could beat a spoiled team who, despite their prestigious Bowl, felt they had absolutely nothing to play for after losing the chance to make history because of a freak play (and solidify themselves as the greatest dynasty of CFB), and embarrass a spoiled fan base who have forgotten what it's like to feel joy every time a win comes out of the little win factory. It's amazing what you can become desensitized to.
2. By "smarter", Prosch was clearly referring to football IQ, the only kind of IQ that matters in an SEC school, and thus, the only kind of intelligence he could possibly be bragging about. Why would he be bragging about how his team and his competition can do calculus better than other conferences? That doesn't even make sense.
3. FSU has allowed five rushing TDs this year - one of them to an FCS school no less. However, all of these TDs came either late in the game or after Florida State has a massive lead, so it's possible that the starting D actually hasn't allowed a rushing TD. Still, that's not what he said, and Auburn won't be facing just the starters all game. Alabama also had a nearly inpenatrable rush D… until they met Auburn.
All-in-all, fun article. I enjoyed it with the exception of those three details. It was intentionally hilarious and acknowledged that the SEC is in fact the best conference. He's just a guy who's not a fan of any SEC school, so of course he's not very happy. He's just saying what everyone not in the south is saying.

Not sure if Reily feels this way (he might)but I bet he gets tons of hits on this article. College football fans not in the south hate the SEC, and with good reason we win all the time.

Rick Reilly is a Colorado grad, presumably a fan. Let's take a look at the Buffs' recent run of dominance. 2013: 4-8 2012: 1-11 2011: 3-10 2010: 5-7 2009: 3-9 2008: 5-7 2007: 6-7 L Independence Bowl vs Alabama 2006: 2-10 Those people really know their college football.

Rick Reilly is one of the lamest piece of shite writers around. Whenever he takes moral stances on issues involving athletes, which is always, I pray to sweet baby Jesus that he is arrested trolling for trannies.

He crazy. Maybe he meant Stoops record against Bama and included his stint as DC at UF? That's a stretch no matter how you slice it.
I want AU to kill the girls school and bring home the crystal to the SEC...so please put away rivalries.

Did you not watch the Sugar Bowl?
AJ going ballastic and jumping and pumping his arms after a big TD in the 1st quarter and the sideline hooping and hollering.
Get over this made up "Bama didn't care" - if they didn't - which is false to the...
"eyeball test"
Then Saban is a shitty arse coach. It's the Sugar Bowl...you just ruined your teams' and conference rep...especially for next season.
If Bama can't get up to preserving their legacy and dominance for next year...playing against arguably the GOAT CFB program of all time*...then, you suck arse as a coach.

But I agree with everyone else on the more relevant topic.
Rick Reilly writes like a child - and is the most insufferable sportswriter I've ever read.
How he won all those sportswriting awards is beyond me.
He's no Jim Murray.

It's fitting that AU should be hated based on what Bama has done.

I at the entire article. Very entertaining, from one of the best columnists in the business.

He definitely mad.
But, really, he's talking about like how the majority of people outside the conference think.
You could see the pure hatred of Alabama, as in as much, or even more than the people within the conference (SEC) , after the Sooners won, starting immediately after the game with the potshots ESPN starting taking at the Tide and what they had accomplished in the past. They were really tossing those around a lot to go with the highlights for a day or so afterward on SportsCenter.
Some of this will probably backfire on the haters as it will surely be used as fuel in the future to kindle the "comeback(s)" if that's what you'd call them. Alabama and Auburn are both loaded with talent and if Auburn loses Monday, they aren't going away. They'll be good again - well maybe not so much if the Gus Bus goes to Browns town with Johnny Football taking up the tokens.
I may be wrong, but every time I'm traveling during college football season, just about everywhere I go outside the Southeast, most people don't care to keep up with what is going on any given Saturday. They sound interested, but they don't usually know the scores or care to watch the games on gameday like they do in the South.
Really, Rick, it's your own problem if you don't find fans as loyal as people in the SEC. That was the main jest of the story.
And, to attack what some college kid has to say? Yeah, I heard one say the other day at a press conference for the game that he put his high school on the map by being at the championship game. The kid probably doesn't know others form his school have been to D1 championships, but he's just a kid who was staying with his mommy the year before.
Here's the ironic part. Rick probably shouldn't just go around a room of kids who were peeing their pants 10 or so years ago and look for one to say something stupid to backup his hatred of something he himself really doesn't follow that much.

Only an FSU fan or someone eaten up with jealousy could celebrate the thought of the War Chant being drilled into your head ad nauseam over Auburn winning.

Post more. Reilly is rarely serious. Entertaining but little substance, if you are into that type of entertainment.
