I heard if you take away all of their first-round draft picks, conference titles, championships, and remove half the seats in the stadium, they're seriously arse.

Now we have someone trash talking Alabama by comparing them to Manchester United?

Bama is the only program that has won a natty in every era except the 80’s.

So BAMA is bigger than any one coach. A good coach can win a natty at bama.

Last i checked Saban isn't the only coach with a statue on the walk of Champions.

True story — I once had a European guy tell me that Manchester United was like Alabama, so I should root for City instead.

I mean...Saban got 6 while at Alabama and Bryant got 6 while at Alabama. So of the 18 claimed, 12 were won by those two. Take those away, and they are very close to everybody else.

There is a big problem with this. When people say “but for Bear and Saban” they seem to assume that another coach would not have won a single game. It is a what if game no one knows the answer to. We have no idea how good or bad Alabama would have been during that period. What if Bear Bryant hadn’t listened to mama and come to Alabama. But what if instead Bobby Bowden had listened and come home to Alabama in 1979 instead of going to Florida State? There are all kinds of scenarios we can make up. But in none of them would Alabama have gone winless for 42 seasons.

I know one thing, if you subtract the wins and accomplishments of any program’s top two coaches they look a lot different.

Georgia? Now do Georgia without the Dooley and Smart years.

Ohio State? Now do them without Woody Hayes and Jim Tressel.

LSU? How do they look without Saban and Miles?

Florida? Now do Florida without Spurrier and Meyer.

You can’t subtract 42 years of Alabama football and then compare them to other programs complete history. It is stupid.

It is like taking two wheels off a winning race car after the race and saying “but look, now it is the slowest car”.

This is true and and a good point.

Also, true. But, when you consider the coaches that were available at the time Saban and Bryant were available, it's not too much of a stretch to think a title might not have been won. Another point could be that if Bryant had not coached at Alabama a lot of the history Alabama has would have been lost and they might have won even fewer than what they did.

I get that, and it too is legitimate to say. but the original question was Alabama has a normal history if they did not have Saban and Bryant and an Alabama fan scoffed at the notion. It wasn't an argument that other programs would have been better or what if they lost their two best coaches. It was an Alabama centered statement, which was a fair statement.

Just like you can't argue that Alabama would have been the same without Bryant and Saban. It works both ways.

And how many of those titles were won by Bryant or Saban? It just seems silly to say Saban and Bryant are not special. Like I said. take them away from Alabama, and Alabama is pretty much the same as several other SEC teams.

I have to say, it’s been extremely rewarding to watch Bama fans come crashing back down to reality.

I didn’t expect it to come this fast, and I also thought the Vanderbilt loss last season would’ve been the last embarrassing moment they had for a while. Boy was I wrong.

I am extremely excited to see what DeBoer continues to bring to the program!

Very true! Bama fans used to be associated with college football greatness. Now they are only known as the hillbillies whose college football team sucks. How did this happen so quickly?

So, Bama aspires to be a program that they are 57-27-5 against? Interesting

Bama got Bryant because he played for Bama and stated when Bama offered him the job "Mama called". He would have come to Bama regardless.

You lucked into Saban. You won't admit it but true fans know. Saban would have done the same at LSU or Georgia, heck even Tennessee and you know it. Saban's success wasn't exclusively tied to Bama. His success is because he was an absolute college coaching savant.

We just went through this. You can not really do that honestly. You say that it is likely Alabama wouldn’t have won one single title during those 42 years. In my scenario instead of Bear they hire Ara Parseghian, followed by Bobby Bowden. Those two won a combined 13 national titles over 42 years. No, let’s make it 14. They won 14.

That is just as accurate as saying Alabama would have won zero.

I will counter your argument with one about Georgia. Without Dooley and Smart Georgia is scummy pond water with one measly national championship during world war II, so it doesn’t even count. Take away Georgia’s two best coaches and those dawgs are past due to be euthanized.

See how it works?
