You Missouri folks need to visit the food and drink board on this site. If y'all want to learn a thing or two about cooking, go there and just pay attention. I'm convinced that people from Louisiana either invented cooking or know who did.

This thread reminds me of my first breakfast at basic training. Half the guys had never seen grits and dumped sugar in them. Then they made fun of the rest us for adding salt/pepper/hot sauce. It was the breakfast Twilight Zone.

Grits are meant to be eaten with cheese, butter, and hot sauce, loaded with salt and pepper.

Anyone who eats sweet grits is a Red Army-sympathizing, al'Qaeda-supporting, God-hating, anti-American, damn Yankee.

Datil hot sauce is some outstanding stuff. First time I ever had it was at O'Steen's in St. Augustine Beach. Try to pick up some every time I visit the in-laws over that way.

Truly the Queen of HOT peppers! I feel sorry for those who have never tasted her sting.

Rates 200,000-300,000 Scoville Units, yet enhances the taste of whatever you put it on to a point of unbelief.

The sauce is great on all meats, but the Datil Vinegar, sprinkled over rice and vegetables or on fresh fried fish is another pleasure to behold.

O'Steens is a fine old eating establishment in St. Augustine.

Next time you are in St. Augustine make sure you pick up some seeds so you can Datil all the time.
